Romance readers around the world were sad to note the passing of Betty Neels in June 2001. Betty’s first book, Sister Peters in Amsterdam, was published in 1969, and she eventually completed 134 books. Her career spanned thirty years, and she continued to write into her ninetieth year. To her millions of fans, Betty epitomized the romance writer, and yet she began writing almost by accident. She had retired from nursing, but her inquiring mind still sought stimulation. Her novels offer a reassuring warmth that was very much a part of her own personality, and her spirit and genuine talent live on in all her stories.

A very large man, in his thirties, she guessed. Handsome, with a commanding nose and a thin mouth and hooded eyes and dark hair streaked with silver. She had no intention of being intimidated by him but she thought that anyone timid might be.

Betty Neels - the complete book list. Contemporary Romance.

You have no objection to being married, do you? Agreeing to share her life with Professor van der Brink-Shaaksma had seemed a good idea to Beatrice at the time. But while fine in theory, the no strings attached deal soon proved to be disastrous. How could it work when every time she saw him, her heart skipped a beat? And what could she now do to make him notice her - not just as his wife but as his partner?
Krijn, older and married to his work of which is is reknown, believes he has found the exact type of wife he is looking for in Nurse Trixie. Her parents died when she was young and she was made the whipping boy or girl of her aunt, uncle and cousin. Of course life with Trixie makes him become aware of the real world and he couldn't imagine life without her. This is one of Ms. Neels' lovely fairy stories. Krijn and Trixie are extremely appealing and even though you know how it's going to end, you're still routing for them to find happiness together. Ms. Neels tries to impart some life, love and/or relationship lesson to her readers. Here, I believe she is telling us to always choose wisely because we want a spouse or partner who will not only be there for us, but who will be there with us through thick and thin.

Book Description: Blossoming Into Love - Agreeing to share her life with Professor van der Brink-Shaaksma had seemed a good idea to Beatrice at the time. But while fine in theory, the "no strings attached" deal soon proved to be disastrous. How could it work when every time she saw him her heart skipped a beat? And what could she now do to make him notice her -- Not just as his wife but as his partner?

Beatrice, a nurse, is sweet, a little clumsy at times, and generous. Krijn, an Endocrinologist, is devoted to his work to the point of being unaware of anyone or anything else around him. While forgetful and oblivious of any and all things outside of his work, he is at some level, aware of Beatrice. Beatrice is an orphan, taken in and raised by her uncle and her aunt-by-marriage (the substitute evil step-mother) along with her spoiled, selfish cousin (the substitute evil step-sister). It is stated in the beginning that Beatrice is more than a little fond of the good looking, absent minded professor but knows he isn't aware of her existence. While the professor appears to exist only in his work-related word the reader realizes early on that he is conscious of not only her existence but what is going on around her. He surprises her and everyone by being there to catch her when falling (literally) without missing a beat and defending her when others felt it within their right to continue to humiliate her. Beatrice contributes her aunt and cousin to provide family conflict while Krijn contributes a "charming" cousin.

Their family lives, developing relationship, marriage, evolving feelings, realization and acknowledgment of their bond; combined with descriptions of culture, architecture, food, etc. make for a pleasant quick read with a smile-producing ending.

This Cinderella-like, absent-minded-professor, marriage-of-convenience is absolutely one of my favorite Neels story and one any Neels fan is sure to enjoy.

I really loved this Betty Neels story because the main characters were so unlikely I found myself laughing. But as the story evolved, the characters became more endearing as they naturally came to love one another. A more unlikely romance I have yet to read! It's very sweet and Betty Neels has a gift for making the reader care about her heroine and hero. There is usually a very good reason why they behave the way they do and everything will end of right in the end. The fun part is getting there. I'll read this one again...and probably more than that. :)

The author did a great job of writing this book. It was heart warming and romantic. It also made you want to read on to see what is going to happen next.

I have been buying Betty Neels books for my mother (in her 70's) at her request, as an introduction to using a Kindle. I can say without hesitation that she loves all of these books. As she has said, "The plots may all be somewhat similar and the stories quaint, but I enjoy them immensely and find them endearing." What better recommendation could there be? And the Kindle Paperwhite? She loves the backlight and the ability to make the font larger.

Ahhh love sometimes men don't noticed that his wife or girlfriend is in love. Or versus love the book. Ok

I liked Betty Neels interpretation of the absent minded professor and Eliza Doolittle. She does a great job of bringing her characters together. In particular, with this novel, I love how I was able to see the gradual change of the professor's attitude toward his convenient wife to his lovely wife.

It was a great, quick read and a new favorite of mine.

Her books are always great!
