Daphne Clair de Jong (born 1939 in New Zealand) is a popular New Zealand writer of over 75 romance novels since 1977 as Daphne Clair and Daphne de Jong, and under the pseudonyms Laurey Bright, Clair Lorel, and Clarissa Garland, and she also publishes poetry and articles. Daphne Clair de Jong was a founding member and first president of Feminists for Life New Zealand, and wrote articles articulating its position in the seventies.

I gave it 2 stars cause I've got to give credit to the writer, her writing reels you in no matter how ugly the content I couldn't put it down. I kept on turning pages hoping for first the H would do something redeemable when that didn't happen , for the h to say enough is enough move on & realize her true love was Derek!! The story is depressing and the feelings so are real on both the H & h. Though there really was no happy ending to either of them the h deserved better & the hero settled for 2nd best.

The H though has a right to be angry I felt he went over board I really don't believe he loved the h but he did lust over her badly & hated himself for it. Would seek her out to test himself & treated her like the dirt on his shoe for his downfall everytime. In the end I think he only went after the h because what was really left for him? He knew he had her on a silver platter because she made it plain she was still very available to him. All he had to say was I love u & she all but begged him to her arms literally. Even though he told her he very much enjoyed having nah nah with his fiance & loved her though differently ( whom tragically got removed from the trio) I believe had she not been removed, the H would not have gone back to the h.

Now the h I think couldn't see real love if it slapped her in the face. Even now when she was going over their failure of a marriage she admitted that the signs to his infidelity were there. Though she went about it all wrong due to her youthful mind. I think the man whom truly loved her was the H's best friend Derek whom was there for her through thick & thin. Whom would seem to drop anything to help her out I mean ( who would want to go along to a party to help another guy "whom he is not really friends" fit in with his date?? ).
So though it is a very emotional book the story is very sad. The pathetic h gets beat up be the H through and through and in the end with a very quick i love you it was settled and let's call it a love story!!!

the monster

This is sort of a dark book from Ms. Clair. The Hero & Heroine have been divorced for 5 years. He was older than the heroine & neither adjusted well to marriage. Jealousies led to the heroine almost having an affair with the hero's best friend & a less than friendly divorce. Five years later, they meet a mutual friend's party where the hero introduces his former wife to his new fiancée. That makes the heroine realize she has more feelings for her ex than she realized but it's now too late for them. Strangely, the hero begins looking for excuses to hang around his ex- wife after the party. Fate takes a hand & the fiancée is killed in a terrible plane crash & the 2 find their way back to each other after all the past is resolved.

Bluddefender

This was a very dark read. It was about two people who's marriage ended in divorce thru mistrust. I did read the whole book but it was so depressing even the ending was not all that bright for her. He had way too many issues to overcome.

CONVERSE

It was an interesting read. The characters had been married and the husband had issues in his past that prevented him from being a good husband. They meet at a party where he tells the exwife that he is getting married.
They both realize they are still in love and have to work through all the pain before they can get together again.
