Willowswood Match: Regency historical romance. I have read many Gayle Buck books via kindle. Her books are sometimes very strict in terms of conforming to Regency customs and behavior; sometimes they are not. This book was not strict, and in fact, it was way off the mark in some instances.

A most painful experience in love sent beautiful, young Miss Miranda Wainwright from her home in America to the estate of her aristocratic cousin in England. Here she could start a new life, far from humiliating memories of betrayal. Burned once by a man's lying lips, Miranda vowed never again to put her heart and her fate in romantic jeopardy. Then she met the arrogant - if undeniably dashing - Viscount of Wythe . . .

I found this book a bit boring and not up to her standards. It was not very imaginative nor was there much of a plot.

Same story as many others... Predictable after first few chapters.

I loved the theme of this story. An American in England over coming society's idea of a woman's place. It was fast moving with no whining. Everyone who reads this story will be entertained I guarantee it.

Dangerous
Miss Miranda Wainwright had been betrothed to someone who wanted to change her. She was considered to be "headstrong". In the end she broke their engagement and sailed the Atlantic with her maid, Constance, and brother, Jeremy. She was going to visit her cousin Anne to take her mind off her recent troubles.

Jeremy Wainwright was a new shipowner and, as such, was on his first voyage. They were almost to their destination when the captain of an English vessel threatened them and boarded the ship. He impressed two of Jeremy's sailors before leaving. With the help of an elderly Englishman returning from America, he had his hands full trying to locate the sailors and winning back his vessel. Miranda talked him into letting her make the trip north with just her maid and he finally agreed.

Miranda arrived safely only to find her cousin's household in a state of chaos because Anne had been sick, her husband had returned to active duty as a soldier and most of the employees had left in fear of the lady's illness. Miranda was a down-to-earth woman and had no problem assisting with anything that needed to be done. That is, until she met Anne's brother-in-law, the Viscount of Wythe, who assumed she was the housekeeper and fired her on the spot.

"You are relieved of your duties from this moment. I expect you to be out of Willowswood within the hour," he said harshly.

"Do you know that you are a singularly unpleasant, arrogant and rude man?" And at that, she walked away leaving him unattended on the stairway.

WILLOWSWOOD MATCH was a drier, old-school Regency romance. I had to knock off one star because there were numerous grammatical errors in the paperback I was reading. More than once I found myself staring at an unfamiliar word only to realize there was a spelling mistake. Also, it took me awhile to warm up to the hero; at first, he came across as a snob and a very shallow man. I would have liked more chemistry between the two. I have read better and worse Regency romances so I am assigning it three stars for middle-of-the-road.

I've been reading this book in bits and pieces during the past couple of days. I nearly gave up on it a couple of times but persevered onward. Technically, the writing is good, the characters had great potential to become interesting, but overall - the story was flatter than a pancake. I've been reading this author's works and have enjoyed most of them - this one not so much.

I can't give it less than three stars because as I said, the writing was not objectionable in any way. But, I never once felt any stirring of passion, frustration, anger, liveliness, angst - nope, just didn't stir me in the least emotionally. Neither the characters or the storyline will find a place in my heart. Therefore, I would say that it is a 2 1/2 star based on the lack of stirring my in my soul which is, of course, a necessity if I'm too keep on reading these book. Sorry, but there it is.

Wow. Consistently awesome writing. She never fails to create a story with just enough intrigue or action to keep the story flowing. This one was a simpler story than several I've read but nonetheless kept me interested the whole way. She doesn't add things too outrageously ridiculous nor unbelievable. And misunderstandings tend to be more realistic than many writers. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
Enjoy as usual.

Her she could start a new life, far from humiliating memories of betrayal. Burned once by a man's lying lips, Miranda vowed never again to put her heart and her fate in romantic jeopardy. Then she met the arrogant if undeniably dashing Viscount of Wythe-and her iron-clad declaration of independence had to meet the test of passion's fire in the person of this lord who was everything that Miranda both distrusted and desired...
A Very good read.
