The ascomycete genus Chaetomium. Beihefte zur Nova Hedwigia. Current name: Chaetomium chiversii (. Cooke) A. Carter, Beihefte zur Nova Hedwigia 84: 19 (1986). 84:1-162 Current name: Chaetomium chiversii (. Classification: Fungi, Dikarya, Ascomycota, Pezizomycotina, Sordariomycetes, Sordariomycetidae, Sordariales, Chaetomiaceae, Chaetomium.

The genus Chaetomium is a member of Chaetomiaceae (Sordariomycetes: Sordariales) . We briefly described advances and status of Chaetomium on dung in recent years, based on both morphological and molecular characters.

The genus Chaetomium is a member of Chaetomiaceae (Sordariomycetes: Sordariales) with saprobic or parasitic species, growing on plant debris, dung, soil, and other substrates. It is highlighted that the tipping point to increase our understanding on Chaetomium species ecology and biology is to consider potential substrates where it can be found, as dung, once that genus is not highly specialized to a specific substrate.

During a survey of soil ascomycetes from different regions of the world, we have isolated numerous strains belonging to Achaetomium. The ascomycete genus Chaetomium. One of them, isolated from India, showed a combination of morphological features that did not fit with any other species of the genus. In this study, it is fully described and illustrated, and proposed as a new species. Castanedomyces australiensis gen.
