Blasse University of Utrecht. Vol. 5. Or- ganometallic Compounds in Organic and Biological Syn- theses. Frank R. Hartley, ed. John Wiley, Chichester, 1990. The chapter on Biological methylation of metal ions is a very welcome addition to the other chapters and covers an area which is often neglected in organic chemistry. At the end of the book, an extensive subject index is given. In addition, an author index of 40 pages for all the cited references in the several chapters is presented. The layout of text and tables is attractive and the figures are generally of good quality, although rather small.

Organometallic compounds are defined as compounds that contain metal - carbon bonds. Metalloids including the elements in Group 13 and the heavier members of the Groups 14 - 16 are also included. The term metal includes all alkali and alkaline earth metals, all transition metals and the lanthanides and actinides in the Periodic Table. The term chemistry includes syntheses, characterizations and reaction chemistry of all such compounds.

The energy contributions of metal-carbon and metal-ligand bonds in a variety of organometallic compounds are examined to seek trends as the metal or the ligand . 2 in The Chemistry of the Metal-Carbon Bond, (. G. Pilcher, H. A. Skinner. Hartley and S. Patai, 1982

The energy contributions of metal-carbon and metal-ligand bonds in a variety of organometallic compounds are examined to seek trends as the metal or the ligand changes. In general, the bond energies D(M-X) for metals from the same group increase as the energy of atomization of the metal increases. Metal-carbon bond dissociation energies fall along the sequence D0(MC) in diatomic carbides D(M-Cp) in cyclopentadienyls D(M-arene) D(M-alkyl) D(M-CO) in metal carbonyls. Patai, 1982.

Redirected from Metallorganic). Organometallic chemistry is the study of organometallic compounds, chemical compounds containing at least one chemical bond between a carbon atom of an organic molecule and a metal, including alkaline, alkaline earth, and transition metals, and sometimes broadened to include metalloids like boron, silicon, and tin, as well

The most important Functional Groups in Organic Chemistry are listed .

The most important Functional Groups in Organic Chemistry are listed below. And depending on the connectivity and bonding types, we divide them into five main categories: Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, cycloalkanes and aromatic compounds. Alkanes are the first group of organic compounds. They are made of carbons and hydrogens that are only connected with single (σ) bonds.

Part of a multi-volume work within the series "The Chemistry of Functional Groups", this volume covers the chemistry of the metal-carbon bond as a whole, but lays emphasis on the carbon end. It is also concerned with the use of organometallic compounds in organic and biological synthesis. It includes chapters on synthetic techniques such as sonochemistry, photochemistry and phase-transfer catalysis, on synthetic reactions such as asymmetric synthesis, oxidation and metathesis, on synthetic reagents such as metal clusters, organolanthanide, organoantimony and organobismuth reagents and chapters on biological alkylation and bio-organotin compounds.
