The book is expected to fulfil the long-felt need for a comprehensive text on modern organic stereochemistry which is conspicuously absent since the publication of Professor Eliels book in 1962. The text may be adopted at any stage of the university teaching and at the same time be useful to the practising organic chemists.

We show how the practical application of this principle can be extended to tautomers of several compounds and to explain the diazotization of aniline. The concept of ‘kinetic quenching’ is also discussed as a system where the Curtin-Hammett principle is inapplicable. A scheme allowing for classification of organic molecules is presented. The need for such a classification and its inherent limitations are discussed briefly. A scheme allowing for classification of isomers of organic molecules is presented.

der Technischen Universitat Miinchen Garching (FRG). Stereochemistry of Organic Compounds. Nasipuris textbook can be thoroughly recommended for its good and detailed introduction to the basic concepts of organic stereochemistry. Principles and Ap- plications. Wiley, Chichester, 1991. XX, 527 p. hardcover &33. However, in its treatment of dy- namic stereochemistry, and especially of asymmetric synthe- sis, it still leaves one with the need for a comprehensive. textbook dealing effectively with these topics.
