Most of this book deals with Pattie and her life, Justin just being (as you would suspect) a monumental part of it. Justin and God are the two main focal points, everything else trickles down from there. The book gets the most interesting after Justin is born and into his toddler years; there is no shortage of drama between herself and Justin's father, Jeremy Bieber.

Most people only know her as Justin Bieber's mom, but Pattie Mallette has had an incredible journey of her own. Many people have heard of her son's rags to riches triumph. A few know she was a teen mom who had to overcome a drug and alcohol addiction. Even fewer know the rest of her story.

I couldn't put this book down. I didn't think of this of a book by "Justin Bieber's Mom" but a book written by a survivor. So much of her past was relatable as I am also a survivor of emotional and sexual abuse. The feelings she expresses and her pure, painful honesty are just awesome and inspiring. I literally laughed out loud and cried. By the end of the book, I really had a better perspective on my own past and my need to forgive. I can't say enough good things about this. It really is one of the best autobiographies I've read in a long time.

Pattie Mallette is an amazing woman and very brave for putting this book together. Detailing her past couldn't have been easy. What IS easy is focusing on this story and their lives as a whole, as there is little involving Justin's actual rise to fame.

From her relationship with her parents Bruce and Diane Dale to her on-again, off again one with Jeremy you will laugh, cry, grin, gasp and groan. She discusses her sexual abuse at a tragically young age and her troubled teen years. The hardest part to read was her suicide attempt; it's not gruesome or graphic, but heavy on the heart because she describes her thoughts and feelings during and after the attempt.

Her overall relationship with God is also interesting to read, as it stays relatively complicated. Strong, but complex. She never claims to be a perfect Christian either. It starts from a young age but manifests itself more fully after her spiritual experience in the hospital following her suicide attempt. Pattie also describes her stay at the Bethesda House for Women in

Bottom line, this is quite a read and NOT just for Justin Bieber fans. For anyone struggling with addictions, abuse, neglect or abandonment, this story may give you hope. Hope for light at the end of the tunnel. It may help anyone in this situation feel like they're not alone. Don't miss out on this telling book!

I wasn't sure what to think when I saw that Justin Bieber's mom wrote a book (eye roll) but since attending a recent concert of his and catching the "Bieber fever" I thought I'd give the book a try.
Wow. What a strong mother. I have gained respect and love for a complete stranger. I am thankful for the ways God has blessed her and continues to bless her and her family.
No matter your battles in life, this book is relatable and inspiring. I hope all of Justin's teenage fans snag a copy of this and see that behind all of the fame and glamour, there is reality. The choices you make have consequences. Drinking, drugs, premarital sex... The majority of our society has made these mistakes... It's what you learn from them and how you grow from your experiences that matter most. Thank you Pattie for bravely sharing your story and for raising a son you can be proud of.

When I first picked up "Nowhere but Up", I was excited to read about this incredible tale by the mother of a very famous superstar. A year ago, I had come across a YouTube interview where Pattie described the harrowing events of her life and how, through a remarkable meeting with men of God strategically placed in her life, was lead to the creator and lover of her soul.

As a Christian man in my 30's, I was drawn to the events surrounding this story and thought, perhaps my faith would be uplifted by reading it. The book exceeded my expectations and I found myself completely compelled to read the entire book through completion within a week!

As the story of Pattie's life unfolds to the reader through her childhood years and up through her teens leading up to the pregnancy of Justin, I could certainly see the monumental building of Pattie's character. It is clear that God had orchestrated many of the events of her life leading up to that faithful day when she finally reached out to Him and was filled with a "love that passes all understanding." I found myself in tears as the years of hopelessness and torment began to be replaced with a peace and love that her relationship with God would bring.

Pattie doesn't pull punches. She is very open about her faith and how it truly was the guiding force that allowed her to overcome her challenges. It is this brutal honesty that really illustrates a genuine individual, not without faults, who desperately fought to change the darkness that surrounded her. Throughout the torrential storms of her life, it seemed that her faith was the only anchor that remained steadfast. She constantly spoke of praying through every major decision including the one to allow Justin to enter into the music industry.

My hope and prayer is that the foundation that Pattie has laid for Justin will not be forgotten by him. The years of her dedication in raising him in a Christian household has defined his character and supported his rise to stardom. In the end, I pray that Pattie's ultimate prayer for Justin (that he would be a voice for a generation) will come to pass and that he will be a guiding light to those who are suffering and lead them to a similar relationship with God where things will come full circle.
