Robert Burns Childhood & Early Life. Robert Burns was born on 25th January, 1759 in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland. His father, William Burnes was a self educated tenant farmer who married a local girl, Agnes Broun. Acting upon the advice given by his friend, Gavin Hamilton, Burns sent proposals for publishing his Scotch Poems to John Wilson, a local printer in Kilmarnock. On 31st July 1786, John published Robert’s works under the title, Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish dialect. Robert Burns’s poetry had the elements of classical, biblical, and English literature, as well as the Scottish Makar tradition.

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796), also known familiarly as Rabbie Burns, the National Bard, Bard of Ayrshire and the Ploughman Poet and various other names and epithets, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide.
