My 25 Years in the CIA. Ralph W. McGehee. While books are widely banned in states like China and Iran, no book may be forbidden by the US government at any level (although the CIA censors books by former officers). This book is dedicated to all those hurt by CIA covert operations. It is especially dedicated to the Vietnamese and the Americans who served in Vietnam. Where books are banned in the United States, the censors tend to be private groups, school boards, and other local (busy) bodies roused to purify the public schools or libraries nearby.

Ralph McGehee's Deadly Deceits is one of the most sobering books you will ever read if you are an American. Written very conservatively, the book slowly climaxes with a series of haunting revelations. It is ultimately a gripping and elightening book. It was very influential to me when I was figuring out how our nation really operates.

Not quite finished with it yet, and I'm considering giving up. It's one of those books with TMI and detail, which is probably needed considering the subject matter. I'll keep at it for a bit. It does remind me that the CIA, in my opinion, is an unnecessary evil. UPDATE: I decided to finish this book and am glad I did. McGehee jumped giant hurdles to get this book into print for you, so give it a chance. Yes, I still skipped through what was too much information for me, but I don't think I lost sight of his purpose. You can thank the CIA for screwing up the Vietnam war, among many other debacles. They are NOT an intelligence gathering agency. Their purpose is covert ops, and you'll be sickened, especially knowing that Ronald Reagan gave the CIA carte blanche to operate within the U.S., something that was previously forbidden. Watch your backs!

While there are likely opposing viewpoints, this one is the most accurate IMO and states many mind blowing facts publicly available (church committee etc) that the public does not acknowledge. Great quick read that sheds light on how the CIA was not gathering intel but creating it to further existing plans and goals of the powers in charge. This covers from the 50’s through the end of the Vietnam war. It is just as relevant now as it was then.

I am still reading this book. A lot of the information isn't news to me but that is not the point. It is from the author's point of view and when "old news" happened, it was new to him. It is quite alarming to read about the corruption and agendas that go on in such a powerful agency in such detail. It is also very sad that this is a reality as well as the incredible disillusionment McGehee must have experienced. I haven't finished yet!

Wonderful book. It is in the same genre as Philip Agee, Inside the Company and John Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. He describes the same world. All three authors got sick of it, got out, and wrote books.

Great book. This book shows how it's always been govt vs the people and that the abuses of the federal gov't remain in place today long after the Vietnam war ended.

A great look at the inner workings of the Central Intelligence Agency. A must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Cold War.
