On a deeper level, the story also provides insight into the effects of being an ethnic minority in a land of apartheid and how that affected one girl's self-esteem and subsequently guided her behavior.

Be Free From Spirit Spous. has been added to your Cart. Some of her other passions include cooking, food tasting, gardening and traveling. This book is absolutely mouth dropping and amazing. or making a larger dent in her sofa watching a movie (80% of the time it would be a Foreign Film). I am so thankful that I had been watching Minister Kevin LA Ewing's videos about spirit spouses and dream interpretations on Youtube bc it lead me to this book.

This is a true narrative of a Chinese South African girl who grew up in a land of apartheid. A naive, shy, and restless young woman, she then lived the life of a vagrant for five years, travelling around the world...from yacht to yacht, beach to beach, bar to bar, sexual encounter to sexual encounter. She learned a lot about herself while globetrotting with a fiery, capricious, moody Spanish South African girl. They developed a volatile, yet close and loving friendship, destined to become inseparable...living life for the moment, uncertain and uncaring of the future, fearless, irrepressible, uncontrollable. However, she could not shrug off the loneliness and sadness that was buried deep within her soul. She continually searched and yearned for the true love and affection that seemed to elude her, finding herself drawn to older men. At times, attraction turned to obsession, leading her into a downward spiral of hurt, heartache, and despair. Her adventures, friendships, and emotional experiences enabled her to become a more courageous and open-minded individual, liberating her from her ethnic inhibitions.

On its surface, Locked Passion of a Free Spirit is a very enjoyable account of a young woman's coming-of-age during 5 years of travel from South Africa to Europe and the Caribbean. On a deeper level, the story also provides insight into the effects of being an ethnic minority in a land of apartheid and how that affected one girl's self-esteem and subsequently guided her behavior. Within its diary genre, the book is thoroughly engrossing, combining travelogue with extraordinarily open and honest confessions of a girl's romantic interests and sexual escapades. I couldn't wait to see how each of her life's entanglements turned out and what adventures were yet to come. Some of the stories are simply entertaining; others are shocking. Upon turning the last page, I felt as if I had been a witness to Fabiola Pon's journey and was sadly saying goodbye to a close friend. Read this book.

Locked Passion of a Free Spirit was a wonderful surprise. Not only was it an incredibly honest memoir; a story of apertheid struggle, romance, and dreams. It was also a 5 year travel log in which you felt you were traveling right next to the author.

Fabiola's writing style is free and easy and I found myself back in time witnessing all the adventure, sexual encounters, heartbreak, and drama.

I would recommend this book highly and I can't wait for Fabila Pon to write another one.

I admire the way that Fabiola has managed to very openly and often painfully tell us the story of her early life, starting with her experiences growing up in South Africa to her coming-of-age exploits during her travels on the high seas and in Europe.
Her candor and sensitivity are captivating if not disarming. I can't help but wonder how the story ends.......she's drawn me in.

I was captivated by this diary-like story that at times was sad, funny and even frightening. I enjoyed reading it and found it to be honest, frank and courageously written.
