This text was required for an online class I took. I loved the convenience of being able to order it from Amazon and have it instantly on my Kindle! Also, having the choice to rent or buy on many textbooks is an awesome option to save some money. Once the rental period is up, you usually have the option to purchase the text and get credit for the amount you paid to rent it. So if you decide you want to keep it you don't end up paying both the rental and purchase prices!

It's an ok book for what it is. This is an older version of the book and is kind of poorly organized. The newer version of the book is better about this. However, the book tends to state the obvious. A lot of what this book talks about is very basic and something that anyone who has ever been around children would probably already know.

Experience prepares you best for managing a classroom, and most of the crap in this book, is for a fairy tale classroom, where all the kids are bright eyed and bushy tailed and their parents are supporting you 100%.

Completely outdated. Do not buy. Actually suggested to use writing as a form of punishment. Suggests having busy work on hand at all times for when "assignments" are completed in class. Seems like these "teachers" did very little teaching in the classroom. Just assigning.

Used for my teaching credential program. Offered some good strategies

This is one of the most helpful texts that I have purchased in the past year. It is easy to read and gives lots of examples as well as many points to ponder. HOWEVER, (if it matters to you)- make sure that you do not get the BOOK ALONE version. There is an online component that you need an access code to, which doesn't come with the book unless you buy the other version (I believe it said "with myeducationlab" in the item description). As a matter of fact, it's cheaper that way by about $8.00 believe it or not. I had to buy access separately because I waited too long to return the one that I bought which was book alone. I guess you have to live and learn... I hope someone benefits from my mistake!

I purchased this book only by reason of class requirement. While I was student teaching I had some issues with one class in particular. My book was in my bag for class that night. I decided to skim the book for any tips. I read a few paragraphs and then utilized the techniques that day. It worked! The book is short and concise.

I bought this book along with the one for middle and high school. Both books are good, but you just need one of the two depending on what level you intend to teach. In other words, buy the one that talks about the level you want to teach.
