This is definitely not worth the price. Good condition but I should never have to cough up almost $200 for 40 pages. I didn't have a use for any of it.

I use this workbook for the occasional student who wants to have more extracurricular enrichment. It could be used for a class, but seems more useful to me for home-schooling, for the motivated young learner, or for teachers to supply as optional extra-credit assignments. I wish there was one for Greece also! Bolchazy-Carducci has some terrific workbooks for middle and high school Latin/Mythology students! I'm also a huge fan of their Mythology Workbook (and require it for a class I teach).

Just ordered this workbook for all my levels of (high school) Latin class and LOVE it! I have required my students for years to buy this author's "Latin Everywhere, Everyday", her workbook on common Latin phrases, mottoes, and abbreviations, so I was very eager to see this new publication from her. Like with her phrases workbook, I think Heimbach does an excellent job covering the basics every student of the classics should know.

In fact, with this map workbook, I think she does a BETTER job than I do covering the topic. For sixteen years of high school level teaching I have been handing out maps (of Italy, of the empire, of the city of Rome/Pompeii, etc.) and attempting to have my students put much of our historical and cultural information in perspective through geography. This will now do the job for me! I can't wait.

A very useful aspect of this workbook is that it does not stop with mere maps. Chapters include an introduction to the area covered, questions for students to answer (in both Latin and English), blank maps for practice, ideas for projects, and even certamen-style questions for class competitions. An electronic teacher's guide will be coming out as well.

Since I switched to Cambridge in recent years as well as did some overseas research on the topic of Roman Britain, I have added a lot more information in my teaching about this area of the ancient world. I was very pleased, therefore, to see Heimbach includes not only Gaul but also Roman Britain. In addition the inclusion of Pompeii and the Bay of Naples as well as the Latin authors compliments the Cambridge textbook series (and really any comprehensive Latin program) nicely. I plan to use this workbook over several years with Cambridge in the following fashion.

Latin I Cambridge:
intro (love it! I can use it for etymology as well.)
ch. I - Ancient Italy
ch. V - Bay of Naples
ch. VI - Pompeii
ch. XII - Ancient Epics (our freshmen read the "Odyssey" in English class)

Latin II Cambridge:
ch. VII - Roman History (sections 1 & 2)
ch. X - Gaul (Caesar is classic latin 2!)
ch. XI - Roman Britain
ch. IV - city of Rome

Latin III Cambridge:
ch. II - Roman world
ch. III - Roman roads
ch. VII - Roman History (section 3)
ch. XIII - Latin authors
ch. VIII/IX - Greece / Athens
