This is the second John Irving book that I have read, the first being A Prayer for Owen Meaney. The World According to Garp was a story, but not in the traditional sense. There were stories within stories. I was able to fully immerse myself in the novel. It is a long book and I tried not to rush through it too quickly as I felt this is a sort of sipping whiskey novel rather than a shooter. There are many themes concealed within the writing and many of the topics are still highly relevant today.
