This book is really amazing. Louise Lacey, I believe, was the first woman to actively chart her body temperature and cycles. Her focus was on the female human circadian response to light. I have just started to try it for myself so I can't yet report on how it is working for me, but I have no doubt that it will. Louise Lacey is a magnificent writer as well. The prose is very informative, delightful, and eloquent. I couldn't put the book down, even though the meat of it is science and I am not really a die hard science fanatic. She fashions a spiritual message and voice, transcending from the concrete natures of her study, and recognizing the rhythmic and yet, spiritual relationship between us females and the moon.
I bought this book because I wanted to get my cycles in order and find a birth control method that would protect my body from unnatural chemicals and hormones. But I have gotten so much more from it than that. I am disappointed to see how expensive this book is, but I suppose that's because it is out of print.
Despite the price, I think this is really a worthy read for any woman who wants to feel in touch with her body and nature and the intrinsic relationship between the two. Louise doesn't discuss the art of "dressing down the moon" because she is more into the practical science of this endeavor, but I would recommend finding out about that as well if you are into really experiencing your body's relationship with the natural world.

This book is incredible! Written from her personal perspective after having a scare with birth control pills, Louise Lacey begins a journey of unraveling research and history into what birth control/reproduction really means. Is there a way to practice contraception without violation of the natural chemistry of our bodies? YES! Lunaception is a method she created that allows our bodies to sync up to the natural rhythms of the moon, allowing women to really turn inward and understand their own rhythms, particularly their times of ovulation and take control of when they want to have a baby. Written in the 1970's this information is just as relevant today as it was then. If you're lucky enough to get an original copy, do it!

This book is hard to get ahold of and difficult to find in good condition, but it is so worth it. Keep in mind it is from the seventies, so all of the medical information is not up to date. I really wish someone would recreate a modern version of the book because the concept is extremely important.

I came across this book around the time it was published in the mid-seventies. I used this method of natural birth control for twelve years, and it worked perfectly for me. During those years I sometimes wondered if maybe I just wasn't fertile; it was hard to believe that such a simple method could be so reliable. However, when I got married and we decided to stop birth control, I was expecting our first child within a month. After our first child was born, I was immediately pregnant again, so I was quite certain, in hindsight, that the method had really worked all those years. I think that not having my system messed up by birth control pills probably contributed to me being able to conceive as soon as I was ready. Many of my friends had difficulty conceiving after years on pills or IUDs. I highly recommend this book!
