It has all you need to start thinking like a Jazz player. The exercises are presented in "step by step form" so you won't jump from super easy to impossible at any point. Of course, it's an INTRO book, so remember it's aimed to give you the basics about chord voicings (and how to apply basic but effective rhythms to them) and a little bit of Lead Sheet reading so you can star playing tunes of the Real Book on your own.
I've already bought Beginning Rock Keyboard and let me tell you it's as good as this one. I cannot tell if the whole serie of these books is as great as the two Harrison's I've bought or is something exclusive of this instructor in particular. I'm planning to keep adding this books to my collection so I will find out at some point.

I have three of Mark Harrison's intro books (blues, jazz, country) -- they are all good. In the jazz book, I especially consider his method of teaching the circle of fifths/fourths and the 2-5-1 chord progression as very understandable and helpful. I have numerous other books on learning jazz piano; Mark Harrison's is superior to most. Now I am not a professional pianist -- just learning it because it is such fun and so fulfilling a recreation.

I'm giving one star not for the book but for Amazon, for showing that the ebook includes audio but its not working.
I'm trying to find where to contact Amazon for help but still can't find it. I hope they will answer to this comment.

I have ao many jazz instruction books on Piano. Having gone through most of them, This one has the most logical approach to learning jazz for me who have a solid music theory foundation and coming from a classical background.....He breaks down a vision of how to do it....all u have to do is believe.....Great if you want to learn how to play fake books....

I have a few years of classical piano training, but no knowledge whatsoever of jazz. I am trying to learn jazz by myself, without classes. And this book is great for that. I looked into other books (such as 'The Jazz Piano Book'), and they assume you know some theory, or that you can figure it out. But this book spells everything out for you, and gives you all the music sheet to practice and learn. For example, it has sheet music for all the chords in all keys for the chord progressions, for different voicing, so you don't have to figure it out. Plus it's pretty cool that all music sheets have a track in the CD with the piano on one channel, and drums/bass on another channel, so that you can mute the piano and play along with the CD.
I think this book is perfect for self-learners.

I love the how Mark Harrison lays out jazz chord progressions in this book. Just playing them sounds very jazzy and the exercises aren't even songs!

I’ve been playing piano for 3 years now. This book is at a level that it is very doable. The exercises help develop an understanding of chords and melody treatment in all the musical keys. The companion CD is helpful. I’m having fun going learning about JAZZ. Mk
