Jay Warner, a longtime music vet and president/CEO of Los Angeles-based National League Music, died on April 23. He was 66. Prior to National League, Warner served as VP of the West Farrell Organization and Charles Koppleman’s The Entertainment Company (forerunner of SBK/EMI). Chief among them: 1978's "How to Have Your Hit Song Published" (Hal Leonard; still in print) and 1993's "The Billboard Book of American Singing Groups: a History 1940-1990. He launched a new book series in 2004 with "On This Day in Music History," featuring a foreword by Beatles producer Sir George Martin.

Warner's book is written in a step-by-step sequence that songwriters can use to prepare and educate themselves in the ways of music publishing - an essential guide that anyone associated with the music industry, or songwriting, needs for constant reference.
