This book gave a condensed version of what to do/see in Charleston. I took a guided tour of the city and found I knew most of the history given just reading this book! I recommend it for anyone visiting Charleston for the first time.

What an excellent book. It does cover the expected topics - the forts, plantations, the usual touristy must see/must do things, but also includes information about things other books don't even mention - such as Charleston's unique livability court, the background and significance of seersucker suits, and that strange culinary offering - boiled peanuts. This book offers a lot of insight and background without being a tome - it's a very portable book, one you should take with you if you are going to travel to the Holy City.

My daughter wanted this book when we were on vacation. With little room left in our baggage I convinced her to wait until we returned home.

6 months later, she received the book for her birthday and she loves it! She's 17 and has enjoyed sharing memories of our trip with her friends and other family members. We even tried one of the recipes and had a wonderful meal.
