When I was researching a book on biomes and endangered species, I was expecting a book with individual profiles for the animals and the habitat they lived in. I was using this book as a source for information to get specific species data, for example, the kiwi, where it lived, its predators, and why it was endangered.

But instead, I received a book with next to no information on specific species, but a plethora of research on the actual area of earth being talked about. An example would be Madagascar, it includes the degree of threatened animals that live there, the climate, and the geologic isolation of the species found there. I was surprised, and underwhelmed. However, it was useful to some degree, as they also include endangered plants, and new species found in each area.

The amount of work that went into this book must've been staggering. What a great resource book! (And yes, the situation our endangered animals are in IS grim and depressing, but we need to know about it.) After reading this book, if kids want something a little lighter (but on the same subject of endangered animals), please consider our Kindle eBook Once Upon A Tiger, a collection of whimsical "pourquoi poems" meant to inspire kids to wonder and think in fanciful ways about these animals. Wouldn't it be great if, because of teachers, librarians, and parents guiding them to these books, thousands of kids decided to grow up and become conservationists? Once Upon A Tiger: New Beginnings for Endangered Animals

An overview of the plight of our planets inhabitants; mammal, bird, fish, reptiles, invertebrates and plants. It does not list each animal or species but rather it lists them by groupings. It should be required reading for our youth. It's an sadly an eyeopener.
