This lexicon is one of the more thorough lexicons of the New Testament. It gives a wealth of information about each word, including several definitions as well as examples of its use in various places in scripture and other ancient writings. Even opinions of various scholars about meanings are found.

In 1965, Gingrich published the Shorter Lexicon of the Greek New Testament. Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament and other early Christian literature. Shorter Lexicon of the Greek New Testament. Danker revised this in 1983 and that version was the basis of the Portuguese translation by Júlio P. T. Zabatiero. Shorter Lexicon of the Greek New Testament by "F. Wilbur Gingrich". This is an abridged version of "Bauer, Arndt, and Gingrich" mentioned below. A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament" by Joseph Henry Thayer. This was considered the first real scholarly work done in English when it first came out in 1885. This one-volume digest provides easy access to reliable and brief definitions, interpretations of most variants, and many of the conjugational and declensional forms that frustrate readers of the New Testament. Danker's revision demonstrates his concern for the needs of students as well as those of ministers and scholars."[The Shorter Lexicon] is by far superior to other New Testament 'dictionaries' of comparable size."â?”Robert Hoerber, Classical World

During my first year of Greek study I was required to use the shorter lexicon for definitions of words as our class worked through I John. Over the past few years I have learned a few of the strengths and weaknesses of the work. On the one hand, the work has the value of clear and modern Greek fonts. The student does not have to worry about old typesets or other difficulties found in other lexicons. The portability of the shorter lexicon is another advantage of the book. The size naturally lends itself to the classroom environment; even the binding supports the wear and tear of school life. Also, the beginner will find non-root forms of some of the more difficult words as entries that point to the root word. This feature is also very helpful. The main drawback that I have found with the book is the dynamic (non-literal) approach it takes to some words. Occasionaly the definitions (esp. certain verse specific definitions) are merely the idea of the word rather than the pure definition of the word itself. With that in mind, the student can still work through the text literally, but must proceed with caution.

The first edition of a now classic work. Great for traveling, fits nicely in bag, definitions are up to date. Great book!

needed this for a new testament Greek class, and it was a great resource. Koine Greek was hard to find in my regular dictionary, so this helped.

THis was a text book for a Class of Senior citizens. I like the way it uses repetition so the learning builds upon itself.

I have already found out that at least two words that I wanted to look up weren't in this book. I thought this book contained every word in the new testament like the big book does. If I knew that, I wouldn't have bought it. Maybe later I'll find a use for it.

Although it was ordered from Japan, it si derivered so fast to purchase a book very conveniently.
