Only 2 left in stock (more on the way). This book is useful in that it reminds us that contemporary Sociologists study crime from two perspectives, structure and process. The structural approach asks the question: How is crime related to the social system, or to the situation in which it occurs? The process approach asks what are the patterns of behavior by which criminals are produced? As far as broad theories of societal causes of crime go, this book includes two: the "ecological theory," out of the University of Chicago, and Emile Durkheim's "anomie theory.

I have found this text to be a thorough exposition of topics within the stated subject matter. There was an obvious bias in the writing which came through at times, but for the most part a very scholarly work. The glossary was the only thing I found lacking in my use of this text.

I would highly recommend this to any professor looking for a text.
