Such a character-building book.

You will find yourself reading it over and over.

Just reviewing a few quotes a day will bring energy and spiritual nourishment to that day.

My favorite author, by far. Can't say enough about Boldt. Especially in this age of bs blogs. He takes so much wisdom from history and sorts it out for you efficiently. Be sure to read all of his books.

it's not a bad book, but not nearly as "Zen" as the title implies: a couple of really good Zen quotes,
but too much Emerson & Thoreau for a book on
Zen.

The book and its many quotes were inspirational. I circled the ones that I wanted to remember for future reference. It was a used book, but it was in fine shape. Because I bought it used the price was right.

Skrimpak
Great book.

Zen Soup is one of the most original little tea table books I’ve got my hands on. It’s definitely more than a tea table book with the profound wisdom it shares and promotes.

I should say first that this little booklet is not limited to sharing Zen wisdom, specifically. It’s well in the spirit of Zen, and there are among the many quotes also those from Zen masters. But there are also quotes from Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Seneca, George Bernhard Shaw, Thomas Merton, Ralph Waldo Emerson—to name only these.

This book in my view belongs in a business library more than in a Zen library because it contains not only wisdom quotes but also smart and pointed introductions into each of the 25 chapters. Only reading over the chapter titles, you will see that the booklet is something like a companion guide to the two reviewed before in that it has a strong and purposeful orientation toward the career path.

I say this because there might be many interested in wisdom who are not particularly attracted to the teaching and the practice of Zen.

Laurence G. Boldt has put together a first class selection of quotes from a wide range of famous men and women, each of them known for some kind of exceptional human achievement. As Boldt says, "the diversity of the sources highlights the timeless and universal nature of these principles", so there are many Westerners quoted aswell as more traditional Zen Eastern sources.
The book is divided into 25 different sections, each of them covering a quality associated with the Zen tradition e.g. Be Here Now, Beginner's Mind, Responsibility, Compassion, Joy, Discipline, The Game Of Life, Selfless Service, Letting Go, Everyday Zen. There is a brief introduction to each quality, then a selection of associated quotes.
Many readers of self-development books and spiritual ideas will be familiar with some of these sayings, but as befits the Zen emphasis, the quality and depth of these quotes really makes an impact. Some of the people quoted several times are Krishnamurti, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Lao-Tzu, Goethe, Carl Jung, Albert Camus and texts from every major religion.

This is a collection of quotes. Quotes that are divided up and categorized under "aspects associated with the Zen tradition." Categories like:
Be here now,Be yourself,Work,Creativity, compassion, joy, perseverance mindfullness, ....etc, etc, etc.

I love quotes as much as the next quote lovin' gal. The sub title "Tasty Morsels of Wisdom from Great Minds East & West" actually means that there are quotes from everybody, everywhere. Great minds, yes. There are a lot of really good quotes here. But, it is a book of quotes. If that's what your looking for, then it's a great book!

This book certainly has some great quotes to make you think and contemplate differnt aspects of life, however the original content is minimal. There are many other books on the market with more in depth and original information. Wouldnt hurt to have this book, but not a necessity.
