Are there any sacred books, classics, or traditions (including oral traditions) that are very important or at least prevalent in Taoism? . Wisdom Comes Dancing by Ruth St. Denis.

Are there any sacred books, classics, or traditions (including oral traditions) that are very important or at least prevalent in Taoism? A few books can be considered to be universally sacred: for instance the Tao Te Ching. The answer will also depend on which lineage of Taoism you are exploring, with each maintaining their own secret books and teachings. However, you have to be careful on the term sacred, as Taoism doesn’t maintain a western view of what this means. The books are not sacred, nor are the words.

For many surfers, it's the ultimate experience. It's all about training and soothing the mind, and entering a mode of freedom and self-awareness which induces relaxation, joy, patience, emotional balance, and love.

As long as humanity can remember, we have recognized the power of dance and movement. Many cultures still consider dance a sacred art and a vital part of ritual, worship, and other spiritual practices. Until recently, Westerners who have sought to tap the power and wisdom of their bodies have done so through Eastern disciplines such as yoga, Tai Chi, and Sufi dancing. In The Serpent and the Wave, Jalaja provides a modern, Western perspective on movement meditation, healing, mind/body integration, and personal power. Filled with simple, clearly-illustrated exercises and meditations, this unique source book has real-life tools that anyone may use."This luminous book brings great gifts of clarity and ease. With beauty, respect, and exquisite sanity, it lets us rediscover the deep grace that connects and flows through mind, heart, body, and world."--Joanna Macy, author of World as Lover, World as Self

Interesting book with an eastern philosophical feel. There are moments in this book that make me think, "hey, I'd like to hang out with this author." Other times, she seems at odds with herself when she fuses taoism with humanism. Personally, I don't like to humanize plants and animals. It's nice to know we share this planet with something other than ourselves. Otherwise, this book is very good, with excellent exercises if you're looking for more emotional release in your dancing.

I had purchased this book many years ago and was on here checking to see if it was still in print. I have a hard time believing that the one reviewer on here actually read it. This book shows how to experience our spirit by moving from our physical (and hence emotional and spiritual) center. The Chinese call it the Dan Tien while the Japanese call it the Hara. I find nothing New Agey about this title. It is chock full of ancient quotes and movement routines. I am unaware of a book on this subject that so fully compiles this type of info, has a solid, practical tone, and is mystical at the same time. This is a workbook as well as the best movement meditation book I have ever read. Did I mention that it is fun, too?

It's great. I read it years ago and am happy to have found it online. Really good resource that organises my own ideas that really resonated with what was in this book. Love it.

The author has really compiled a wonderful collection of suggestions for movement meditations that have really helped me understand that meditation can be an "in body" experience. I found myself really appreciating my own body and the deep connection to spirit that these experiences lend
