Barbara Hambly (Author). Book 2 of 2 in the Sisters of the Raven Series.

Barbara Hambly (Author). I first read Circle of the Moon some years ago, and it was one of those book that just stuck with me, so I had to have a copy of it again, along with its companion volume, Sisters of the Raven. Together, they tell the story of a civilization in the upheaval of a change that no one had expected. The setting of the books is a society which seems similar to that of ancient Arabia, with women in harem and veiled, with fathers, husbands and brothers in control of their lives.

Circle of the Moon book. Not because Hambly doesn't bring the interior mysteries of the story to a full and satisfying close-she does-but because the larger story arcs: the change in the nature of magic, the drought in the lakelands, the monsters and creatures no longer restrained by dying or dead spells, the issue of the teyn, are still so.

Sisters of the raven. Demonstrates graceful storytelling style and flair for world-building. Warner Books and the Warner Books logo are trademarks of Time Warner Inc. or an affiliated company.

The sequel to Sisters of the Raven is very similar and concerns the same characters as the first. Whole villages are abruptly killing themselves, and Oryn, Summerchild and Raeshaldis try to determine. Circle of the Moon (2005) is the second fantasy novel in the Raven .

Circle of the Moon (2005) is the second fantasy novel in the Raven Sisters series, following Sisters of the Raven. In the previous volume, the Raven Sisters were being abducted and then murdered. Pomegranate and Soth discover that ancient wards are no longer working to constrain the lake monsters.

The Yellow City is in crisis. Frustrated Mages across the land can no longer work the magic that once ran their empire. The wells are running dry, and the Sun Mages have been unable to call the rains. Now the magic lies solely in the hands of a few women-the first ever to have developed magical powers.

Thus does one sister of the plain gold band know another who stands in the enchanted light that shines but once and briefly for each one. By rice and satin bows does mere man become aware of weddings. Instead of going straight into the adjoining room, where her desk was, she lingered, slightly irresolute, in the outer office. Once she moved over by Maxwell's desk, near enough for him to be aware of her presence. The machine sitting at that desk was no longer a man; it was a busy New York broker, moved by buzzing wheels and uncoiling springs. Well-what is it? Anything?" asked Maxwell sharply.

Sisters of the Raven (2002). Circle of the Moon (2005).

Faced with an attempt by the land chiefs to oust the King, and with the efforts of her own family to re-enslave her, Raeshaldis must play a deadly guessing game while an even more terrible threat awaits in this latest novel by the bestselling author of "Sisters of the Raven."

I first read Circle of the Moon some years ago, and it was one of those book that just stuck with me, so I had to have a copy of it again, along with its companion volume, Sisters of the Raven. Together, they tell the story of a civilization in the upheaval of a change that no one had expected. The setting of the books is a society which seems similar to that of ancient Arabia, with women in harem and veiled, with fathers , husbands and brothers in control of their lives. Until this point in the story, men have held the power of magic, and have dealt with day to day issues like keeping rats and mosquitos at bay with it, healing the sick and injured with it, and calling up the rain in ties of need. However, men no longer have that power, and even stranger is the fact that some women are showing signs of having gained it. The story follows the trials of a girl named Raeshaldis, who has the power of magic, along with her friend, Summerchild, who is the favored concubine and great love of Oren, the king of the Yellow City, and their attempts to control this new magic, which is nothing like what had been in the power of men. Everyone is having to make adjustments to this new reality, with some not handling the changes as well as others.

Both of these books are imaginative and the main characters well developed and likable. Each is a wonderful read for anyone who loves fantasy.

I really liked Circle of the Moon. I liked it better than the book that preceded it, in which we first meet the Sisters of the Raven. That is, in part, because the ending was happier. I can't recall the last time I read a Hambly novel that had an upbeat ending.

I liked what Hambly's done with Foxfire Girl, in particular. There were also two points in the story where I thought, 'yes, of course', as pieces I hadn't connected before slid into place, a thing few authors can manage. It was a FUN book to read.

It was not perfect. Raeshaldis takes leave of her senses in service of the plot, and Oryn, who's no fool, displays a true inability to manage politics. I guess he didn't learn anything from the events of the first book.

An absolute must for any one who has read any of Hambly's works. Fascinating world that opens up a little more. Beautifully written with Hambly's unmistakable use of language.

I did not enjoy this book as well as I enjoyed the RAVENS and/or the BENJAMIN JANUARY books. This book seemed to be a 'filler' between the RAVENS and the next. I hope the next book in the series is better.

Quphagie
Hambly writes so descriptively, I really enjoy her work. This and Sisters of the Raven were both great adventures .

Coidor
I liked this book. It was the sequel to Daughters of the Raven which I really enjoyed. Circle of the Moon lacked some of the beautiful writing style that was prevalent in the first book. The story was engaging and, of course, it had a happy ending!

I've been reading Barbara Hambly's fantasy. This series was a little harder than the others to get attached to. But this book really picked up the pace and made you care about the characters.

Barbara has put out better works (time of the dark, etc.), but this was still quite fun and a compelling read. It expands upon the world and characters introduced in Sisters of the Raven nicely, and leaves many issues open for further works.
