Lou Dobbs hit the nail right on the head. Very interesting to read. The least I know now that I am not the only one who thinks on this line. I found over the years that most people are like ostriches with their head in the sand. It looks like these people, eveso they should realize it, do not want to know the truce.
I will stick to my way of seeing things and I will not get any nasty surprises in the future.

In yet another work, Dobbs drums up what he thinks are some of the major issues in our American society today which voters in the 2008 election should be focused on. In his first chapter he critiques how the US as a superpower and world leader we fall short on our own citizenry. Namely through loss of jobs and nonreciprocal trade agreements. He continues in how we as a society have been lowered by government scandals, looting CEO's and business greed. He then rants about how the two party system has become completely ineffective and self serving. His argument boils down to both parties are really no different from each other other then surface partisan differences rather they are both self serving, out of touch, greedy parties. Then there's the chapter deriding the horrendous job Bush has done especially with his abhorrent abuse of using signing statements. And then he addresses the economony and our transformation as a manufacturer to a debtor nation on the country level and the individual level. Privatization of government is addressed and how our government is outsourcing its job - maintaining and improving infrastructure and delivering public services. He then carries on about immigration, non profits promoting religious and political agendas, the media bombarding us with useless information, violence and sex.

All of these issues are relevant and important in our next election. Here's the problem with the book. And it's a repeat problem from his prior books but I found this book to be especially whiny - Lou carries on and on with big words and long winded rants but never offers a single comprehensive solution to any of the issues he rants about. He's great at pointing out important issues that effect the middle class, in this respect he's a great populist. But he's also a guy with no solutions. He's great at holding the accountable's feet to the fire but falls short beyond that.

This book is a mirror image of his show. Big worded laundry lists of complaints. It's not even an argument. I did like War on the Middle class but that too fell short on any solutions. The book carried "the sky is falling" tone throughout and was simply written but intentionally inflated with Dobb's use of big vocabulary. And then there were his overwhelming rhetorical questions to reinforce his complaints.

I was just very unhappy with book. More and more, I am look for comprehensive discussion, solutions and "where do we go from here". The more books I read by Dobbs and the more I see his show, the conclusion I draw further each time is he's the guy who stands there and gasps, "Oh my, this is terrible, Are we to accept this!" And thats it. Chicken Little. His book raises important issues but beyond raising them, thats it. I'd like to see Dobb's roll up his sleeves and get in the debate rather than being the guy on the side lines throwing stones in the middle. Lastly there is no doubt the issues he raises are very important and and that we should all be aware of. But please Lou, be more of just another pundit standing on the soapbox.

After reading the book I think we have found the new host for Meet The Press. The perfect un-biased host. As Tim Russert did, he leans a little to the left, but has a very un-biased opinion on both sides of the coin. Wouldn't it be nice.

Dobbs is billed as a conservative which by this book would show he is not. I am so disappointed when "Conservative" writers are so unaware of the writings of Karl Marx, Frederich Engels, Trotsky and other socialist writers. His ignorance of what a American constitutionalist really is makes one think that he has been listening to the pundits of his former network too much and not spending enough time in the library.

His diatribe against the Republicans AND Democrats is refreshing, though something we have heard over and over since George Wallace declared there isn't a dime's worth of difference between them, so, "Lou, what's new?" Great you just caught up with 1960's political scene.

This book is repetitive, boring and gives little new information to the initiated in Washington shenanigans. To the novice casual observer of mainly CNN/NBC cable news, it will be a shocking revelation. So, to those who know, skip it. To those who don't, prepare to see the sun rise in a different place.

Independents Day: Awakening the American Spirit should be mandatory reading for all Americans. I read it after the election, but still found it timely and appropriate. Lou Dobbs is one of the reasons I am proud to be an American. If you want more out of a book than entertainment, read this!

This book was very enjoyable, but scary. What will happen to our country if our leaders continue in this manner? I agree with Lou Dobbs and he is not afraid to say it like it is.
