Start reading The Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim: Robert Beck's Real Story on your Kindle in under a minute. In this book, he discovers the Black Panther and black pride. It has to be pointed out to him that Slim spent the first half of his life beating up black women and living high off their labors as prostitutes. Slim never exactly addresses the point. He could have made an honest living but he chose to exploit black women.
Beck combines humor with pathos. The book is insightful and provocative. I’d come across the Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim by accident. I’m glad I did. It is an eye opening and satisfying read. Iceberg was a really conscious soul brother who cared about his plight of the black race, especially now that he is done with being brainwashed about pimping. Having read this book prior in college, I had a chance to revisit this book as a more mature adult, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Home Iceberg Slim The Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim. The Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim, . I dedicate this book to the heroic memory of Malcolm X, Jack Johnson, Melvin X, Jonathan Jackson; to Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, Ericka Huggins, George Jackson, Angela Davis; and to all street niggers and strugglers in and out of the joints. From a steel box to a wicked young girl. I want to say at the outset that I have become ill, insane as an inmate of a torture chamber behind America’s fake facade of justice and democracy. But I am not as ill as I was, and I am getting better all the time.
Iceberg Slim, also known as Robert Beck, was born in Chicago in 1918 and was initiated into the life of the pimp at age eighteen
In The Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim, the fierce and lyrical icon for criminal reformation describes himself as il. rom America’s fake façade of justice and democracy. For Iceberg, the illness may have been a detriment, but for us, it’s a gift. His tales serve as a chilling reminder that we are all still inmates of one prison or another, and the time to break free has arrived. Iceberg Slim, also known as Robert Beck, was born in Chicago in 1918 and was initiated into the life of the pimp at age eighteen. He briefly attended the Tuskegee Institute but dropped out to return to the streets of the South Side, where he remained, pimping until he was forty-two.

Mama passed away nearly ten years ago out here in Los Angeles d fled North sharing with you an impossible dream of everlasting love, bright opportunity and dignity as a human being in the Promised Land. But at the end, at least, she could be proud and happy that I had dropped the pimp life. Papa, I am so sorry that I still hated you the last time I saw you in that liquor store in Chicago almost twenty years ago.
Iceberg Slim's first three vels (Pimp, Trick Baby and Mama Black Widow) offered some of the rawest and bleakest visions of urban America ever put to paper. The Naked Soul of Iceberg Slim, however, proves to be something of a departure in the sense that it is a series of short personal recollections. Make mistake, the passion, razor-sharp perception and unflinching honesty remains and, if anything, is all the more chilling for its total directness.
Iceberg Slim - who IS Robert Beck - takes us for a ride; this time not only through the harrowing world of a pimp, but through his brain, his soul, and his psyche. The racist, gut-wrenching universe Iceberg Slim inhabits throughout this novel and his struggle to endure is one that will be appreciated by all. The story’s arch of chaos to cleansing is startlingly honest. After all, one can’t help but root for the man who had the courage to rupture the bars of the cell society created for him and the man who gave a voice to those too afraid to speak.
