American Indian mystic, Joseph Rael, describes his life and ours as if it were an ongoing school in which we learn how to develop and use visionary and spiritual powers. In his own case, these go from being an isolated mixed-race child and witnessing the tragic early deaths of his two sisters, to his initiation into the tribal mysteries and his methodical path of self-education, leading to a degree at the University of Wisconsin. His story is filled with magic, tragedy, mysticism and metaphor, but he seeks to make sense of life's seemingly random events.

What is it like to be a contemporary American Indian mystic? What sequence of experiences come together to form a mystic's path? How would you deal with the visions that come and carry you to alternate dimensions without notice and at the most inopportune times? In The House of Shattering Light: Life as an American Indian Mystic, Joseph Rael reveals how such questions shaped his life and his visions for the future."This House of Shattering Light - this perceptual reality in which we live and of which we are a part - exists only for the soul's purpose of continuing its own livelihood."-Joseph Rael

In this book Joseph shares from us major events from his life. You see 'House of shattering light' is a sacred description of the slices of light, the flashing into and out of physical perception, that we are all undergoing in every luminescent moment. Joseph is able to convey his experiences while growing up which tie him back to an ancient Pueblo culture. In this book he also shares a number of sacred words and phrases from the Tiwa language which help to transport you to new dimensions of awareness and realization. Joseph is a rich human being and it may take many generations before the awesome nature of what he has shared is realized by the larger planetary culture. Highly recommended.

You should also read his other books especially Being and Vibration,Sound: Native Teachings and Visionary Art of Joseph Rael, and Ceremonies of the Living Spirit.

I appreciated the author's matter-of-fact handling of his inter-dimensional experiences,
which were handled with humor and grace. How many people would be able to continue
driving down a country road while seeing a shark swimming across the very road you
happen to be on? Or, for that matter, seeing Superman flying down the railroad tracks
in front of the train? I got a good chuckle when Rael's friend said, "I need to go home. I also
need to stop drinking." Doubly hilarious for the situation and for his friend's off-hand reply.
The writing in this book is excellent! And, I felt I was able to get a tiny glimmer or peak into
what it is like to live life as a mystic.

This story will blow anyone's mind. Because Beautiful Painted Arrow's experiences are so unlike most of ours. It's an exciting read, but not for the skeptics who think that people should focus only on what we can detect with our five physical senses. There's much more to reality than just this 3D experience. I bought one for a friend who is also enjoying it very much.

I haven't been able to read since around 2001 or so, but I like reading a page or two from highly recommended books. I liked the story about man flying over railroad tracks and the visions of mermen @ findhorn in 1984. I was busy getting my nuts kicked in at school so sorry I couldn't help out with planetary healing elder man.

House of Shattering Light shares Native American mysticism generously with us conquerers who nearly wiped it out. His insights and experiences come at a time when we and the world desperately need them. Our best hope for ecological and economic survival comes from a personal and cultural turn to our spiritual connection with our Mother Earth. Rael shows how past and passing cultures can inform a more connected, loving future for humankind.

This book should be required reading for all souls who visit planet earth. I have bought so many of copies of this book to give away to friends who are interested in healing, it has become part of my purpose in life to share this work.

If Carlos Castaneda captured your curiosity in the mysteries of shamanism, then you will enjoy reading the writings of a real, live Native American man who has walked the walked. He is a human being. His tribal and personal family history is fascinating. Although this book is small, it expands with knowledge of a people, yet sounds of unique individual perspective. It is a gift.

I sense this book was brought forth by others begging him to share his knowledge, rather than inspired by a his desire for worldly fame.

What is astonishing about this author's gift is his point of view.

His mother and father come from two distinctly different tribes. Through this experience, he is able to blend together a tread of reason that relates to the world. Having won numerous prizes for his work to bring peace, there is deep, resonate meaning in his words. Listen.

This book is a DEEP look into the belief system and culture of a native American Indian. Joseph Rael is mixed
Picuris and Southern Ute. He gives us his life story, the good, the bad and the mystical. He shows us that life
is more than we see with the eyes and shows us by his actions or should I say "good vibrations". Great book!

I have other books by Joseph Rael and enjoy his thoughts. It challenges me to think differently.
