No-one gave the 2009 Lions a chance in South Africa. But through a combination of fervent players and McGeechan's brilliant coaching leadership, the Lions pushed South Africa all the way, and came to the very brink of glory in a Test series seen as one of the most momentous the Lions have ever played. Now, in this frank and engaging memoir, Ian McGeechan shares his unrivalled insight into the triumphs and tribulations of British rugby and of the progress of the sport over the past two decades. Lion Manoffers a unique glimpse into the past, present and future of British rugby from one of the most influential figures in the history of the sport.

As a rugby man and teacher Ian McGeechan will well understand the phrase" must do better".This is a disappointing, disjointed and incoherent read. Its muddled and lacks clarity- a bit like McGeechan's coaching at Bath this season.McGeechan has always had an inflated sense of his own importance and the bile he heaps on the young Head who thinks his long exits from school are detrimental confirms his own sense of self importance. His cramped writing style and his lack of perspective rankles throughout what is a difficult read. After this yawn of a read McGeechan looks like the dinosaur he has become with his sentimental view of the world and his sense of martyrdom for the cause. The whole world is wrong and I am right is the unhealthy message that permeates every ounce of this turgid read.

A good read and well worth the purchase. Covers his rugby life and not just his work with the Lions. Any Brit with rugby in his blood will enjoy this book
