Jan S. Hesthaven, Tim Warburton. The text offers an introduction to the key ideas, basic analysis, and efficient implementation of discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods (DG-FEM) for the solution of partial differential equations

Jan S. The text offers an introduction to the key ideas, basic analysis, and efficient implementation of discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods (DG-FEM) for the solution of partial differential equations. All key theoretical results are either derived or discussed, including an overview of relevant results from approximation theory, convergence theory for numerical PDE's, orthogonal polynomials etc. Through embedded Matlab codes, the algorithms are discussed and implemented for a number of classic systems of PDE's, .

Algorithms, Analysis, and Applications. This book discusses a family of computational methods, known as discontinuous Galerkin methods, for solving partial differential equations

Algorithms, Analysis, and Applications. First text on DG-FEM, suitable both as a textbook and for self study. Attention to basic analysis and algorithmic issues. This book discusses a family of computational methods, known as discontinuous Galerkin methods, for solving partial differential equations. While these methods have been known since the early 1970s, they have experienced an almost explosive growth interest during the last ten to fifteen years, leading both to substantial theoretical developments and the application of these methods to a broad range of problems.

Discontinuous Galerkin Method: Analysis and Applications to Compressible Flow (Springer Series in Computational Mathematics Book 48). Vít Dolejší.

This book offers an introduction to the key ideas, basic analysis, and efficient implementation of discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods (DG-FEM) for the solution of partial differential equations.

It covers all key theoretical results, including an overview of relevant results from approximation theory, convergence theory for numerical PDE’s, and orthogonal polynomials. Through embedded Matlab codes, coverage discusses and implements the algorithms for a number of classic systems of PDE’s: Maxwell’s equations, Euler equations, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and Poisson- and Helmholtz equations.

This is not a book for the beginners. It will be easier for you if you have previous knowledge about similar methods. In the book you will find a lot of examples and useful codes which you can adapt to your own problems, but if you want to learn introductory theory behind method than you will have to search somewhere else.

This is a great book. As a grad student doing my dissertation in the area of numerical analysis of PDEs, I have been living in this book for the last couple of years. The exposition is very clear and the authors go into many of the bloody details in getting a DG code up and running while also keeping up with the theory. There are a couple of typos, so be sure to check out the updates available on the authors' websites.

Highly recommended to anyone getting into this subject matter.

This is a very dense introduction to this material, but it does seem to cover what is necessary. I had significant help from my research advisor and felt that I did thoroughly learn the material presented in the first four chapters.
