I personally think that Photoshop is not easy; it takes a lot of practice and great tips to create beautiful artwork from Photoshop! I have Frederick Chipkins book. I was lucky enough that someone recommended it to me. I've been in the in industry 10 years and I still have his book opened on my table every day. Every technique, any question you have, any solution you need for a textile design problem is right there at you fingertips. This is a very tough industry, nobody is forthcoming in sharing information. Frederick updates his book with every version of Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop for Textile Design (for Photoshop CS5) is a tutorial that shows you how to use Adobe Photoshop to create Textile Designs. I am so happy with this book. My Photoshop skill are minimal to say the least, so I was very intimidated about trying these lessons out, but this book has made me feel very "safe" in working in the program. Each lesson takes you step by step and is easily understandable. Frederick is so encouraging and has offered to answer any questions that may come up about the lessons...so he is readily available when you need him!!!
So far I am doing better than I expected on the lessons so I will keep working at it and practicing!

It is amazing how Frederick could make such a complicated task into something fun and easy to learn! I would definitely recommend this great book to anyone who is into textiles design with using Photoshop. I personally think that Photoshop is not easy; it takes a lot of practice and great tips to create beautiful artwork from Photoshop!

I completed the certificate program with Fashion and Graphics Design last year. Was a 1/2 year program for 6 courses- two of the courses were not Photoshop/ Illustrator related. Each course was about 24 hours averagely in a very short period of time. I appreciate the learning there, especially from one of my best instructors I still keep in touch with. : ) The only problem I feel is that to learn something so technical- a longer period of time is really needed to learn well, and as well as remember well. Personally, I think the school system can be better. I was always seen as a very good and dedicated student- but no one could see exactly how much hard work I put behind. I learned and did my work in a hard way- only because I appreciate my instructors (especially the best instructor I really like!), and because I appreciate art and designs! With Frederick's book I just purchased, I know I can learn much, much easier!!! : )

In Frederick's "Adobe Photoshop for Textile Design"- CS5 version, I find a lot I didn't learn from school. Such as the spot channel, detailed and important explanation on color reduction, merging color position, and desaturate a tonal design. Even I learned some already, I am not sure I can remember everything after a few months. But with complete instructions in Frederick's book- I can always have a great reference with great tips! I also think his designs/ artwork are very pretty! I especially like his drawing and painting on flowers in his CD!!! : ) I am very impressed with his art!

Am looking forward to start every exercise in Frederick's book to practice and to explore!! Again, this is a must have book if you are wanting to improve your Photoshop skills for textiles design!

A great book for those interested in creating surface pattern designs using Photoshop. Well written with many screen shots to help you understand how repeats can be accomplished. The author also talks you through setting up your software preferences for the best results. I highly recommend this book.

Among all the tutorial books that I had came across over the years, I have never had this much fun learning from a book.

The book is very easy to follow so even a person with no prior Photoshop experience can pick up easily. I love how the author provides different methods/techniques on acheive the results you need. I have a experience learning and practicing with the samples the book provided. The author not only gave the best knowledge he had to offer but he also opened the door to different possibilties.

I can not say enough great things about Mr. Frederick Chipkin's wonderfully organized and conscience book. It has everything one needs to know on how to create flawless repeats, photo draping, and effective coloring techniques detailed in an easy to follow manner. His customer service and technical expertise is unparalleled. I also highly recommend his video classes in conjunction with the book found here: [...]. I have searched for months for how-to digital textile and surface design books and nothing compares to Mr. Chipkin's.

I bought these for our graphic designers who work with handpainted artwork to learn how to take the art into textile designs. Frederick gives great detail and breaks things down into steps. His methods are very thorough. He also provides great customer service! I would recommend.

I bought this book 3 weeks ago and it was a big surprise to see how clever is the author to give excelents clues for the simple mortal I am. I am not a textile designer but I understood all very well,and in an excellent english very easy to read. Also the paper is very beautiful with very careful details in each page. And amazing the CD which came together wich wonderful images.
