Lawrence Block delivers another cleverly written adventure for the man who couldn't sleep, Evan Tanner, who details his exploits in a wry voice that is always entertaining, and surprisingly, frequently enlightening when it comes to the shadow world of Eastern Europe mired in the Cold War. I agree with Lawrence Block that the title stinks. But I enjoy his wacky humor. This one was over the top. Tanner sneaks his way through Eastern Europe, accumulating secrets and people at every turn. By the time he manipulates his way back to the US, he has a party of 15. Really?????

The first time I read Tanner's Twelve Swingers I got close to the end and it was time to stop reading and go to work.But on that day even though it meant being late I had to find out what happened. Since then I have reread in many times and have more than one copy including a kindle copy. Not the best literature but a very good read.

This very early Block story is effortlessly entertaining,but extremely featherweight compared to most of Mr.Blocks books. Its funny and fast moving,adequate for a quick summer beach read,but pales in comparison to almost any other Lawrence Block book.

Many years ago I read this book for the first time. The adventures and dry approach to life of the hero, Evan Tanner, did not fail to attract me. It was a great read ! Now, years later, my iPad allows me to download it for a very small price, and the story is as fresh as before. Thoroughly enjoyable!!
