Blood brothers publishing. The station wagon’s hood crumpled like the pages of an old, wet comic book.

Blood brothers publishing. The moose, a woolly mammoth of a thing unlike any animal Davy had ever seen, crashed sideways onto what was left of the engine and then up into the windshield. Before the animal spun off the car, its antlers smashed through the glass just above the steering wheel.

Mike had never believed in the kind of instinct you read about in books and saw in the movies. Then, before anything worse could happen, he growled and plunged one of the knives into Pullman. The blade ripped into Mike’s side just above his left hipbone. He felt heat and electricity, as if he’d been wounded not by a hunting knife but with some futuristic ray gun.

She gathered her book, her candles, and her beer and climbed the stairs. From the bedroom, Paul McCartney sang a love song, and although it should have seemed ironically inappropriate, Libby found it soothing. She hurried toward the music and away from any thoughts of what had happened downstairs.

For the women in my life: my mom, Sheila; my wife, Amy; and my little girls, Dakota and Katelyn. Davy knew he’d made a mistake. Sometimes, back home, he woke up at night and found he’d pottied little in his bed. It was a disgusting feeling, like when you put your jammies on after your bath before you dried all the way off, only warmer and stinkier. Going potty in his bed was the absolute worst thing he could think of, but he hadn’t done it in such a long, long time (at least three or four weeks) that he’d thought maybe he’d never do it again.

The late Richard Laymon would have been grinning ear to ear.”—Jack Ketchum, multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Girl Next Door and The Woman“With Dismember, Daniel Pyle joins the select group of authors who can provide real chills and genuine surprises. "Dismember" was a creepy, look-over-your-shoulder-while-you're-reading-it kind of book.

Davy is one screwed up guy. But then he has every reason to be. Reading this book made me want to pound someone into a pulp with my Kindle. That someone varied as I read through the book.

Blood, guts, horror, child abuse...and Davy, a despicable man you fight feeling sorry for.

The car wreck scene was the first scene in a book that I've had a nightmare about in a LONG time. Very vivid, to say the least.

If you like Mark Nykanen (Hush) or Richard Laymon or Michael Prescott, you'll like this book. I liked "Dismember" more than Pyle's other two offerings - Freeze and Down the Drain - and I enjoyed them. You can get "Dismember" and "Freeze" in one book called Mountain Madness, I noticed.

I like scary stories with big scary monsters. With the title of this book being Dismember I thought, "nice - a hack and slash, squirt and splash". I was in the mood for one of these and I thought that I had found another author that could satisfy my sick lust especially after reading Down the Drain.

This was not the gruesome, messy, sloppy story that I was expecting. Instead, Mr. Pyle introduced me to a different kind of monster; a plodding, methodical and conniving being and I liked it!

I thought that the story was well thought-out and artfully written. The pacing of the story was a smidgen on the plodding side for me but patience is rewarded.

Nicely done sir! One favor though, if you don't mind, forget my birthday please.

I've been wracking my brain trying to remember if I've ever read something like this before. I think I must have, but nothing comes to mind. "Dismember" was presented as suspense, and it has all the elements of a suspense novel, yet it also has a horror element I wasn't anticipating. This is similar to the way J.A. Konrath mixes a little horror into his police procedurals in the "Jack Daniels" series. I'd have guessed I wouldn't like this combination. Not the first time I've been wrong.

Pyle also strayed from the stereotypical in his characterization, making the villain sympathetic. I wanted him captured before anyone (or anyone else) was hurt. There was no excuse for his actions, yet I couldn't help feeling compassion for him.

Pyle's writing style is entertaining and at times amusing as I wondered, "How did he come up with that line." One of my favorites was describing a mountain road as, "curvier than a Parkinson's patient's question mark." Another time one of the characters was risking an injury to her hand, "not thinking website design might be a little tricky with only a left paw and a mangled claw."

The story is action packed and never bogs down. A typical suspense novel slowly builds tension over the course of the story, peaking near the end. "Dismember" builds to a peak, then backs off and lets the tension build again as it takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion.

I first came across this gem of a book while searching for Richard Laymon Kindle books. Normally, I find that a dirty trick, but, well, the cover art really grabbed me, not to mention the cool title. So, I purchased the book. What a great read it turned out to be! Some really bad decisions were made by the grown up characters, which can be really annoying, but honestly, that made me think perhaps that is why the book comes up on a Laymon search? Pyle's characters were entertaining, and he really let us get to know the bad guy and actually feel some empathy, which, in my opinion, is one of the greatest things horror writers can do! This reads like both a slasher novel and a thriller. A bit heavy on the gore, for those sensitive to such things. If you can handle a bit of the visceral stuff, I highly recommend reading this for a quick, fun ride through this twisted killer's world!

I'm always hesitant to read books that I get free for the Kindle, often because they're just awful, but I was pleasantly surprised with Dismember. The author's writing style is smooth and the story flows well. I found myself genuinely curious as to what would happen next, as well as how he would wrap up such a story. Needless to say, I was shocked by the ending. At first I wasn't thrilled with it because I'm not one for subtlety, but the more I've reflected on it, the more I think he made the right call with the way he ended it.

I would definitely recommend this book if you like suspense mixed in with a bit of horror. If you can't stand reading about child abuse, this probably wouldn't be a great pick, but most of the abuse is innuendo and not graphic, so it's not as bad as it could be.

Here's a tip: don't read this at night when you are alone. I read this in the daylight and it still scared me! This is an action packed book that kept me on the edge of my seat. The only reason this book didn't get 5 stars was because I didn't really like the ending. But the rest of it was so good that I only deducted one star for that. This is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

I was unable to put down "Dismember," by Daniel Pyle. I have always been frightened of the boogey man, expecially the one who steals my child and butchers myself with no hope insight and this is excatly ehat this book is about. Young Davey is involed in a car accident that kills his family and is rescued by Mr. Boots. On his thirtieth birthday Davey decides to find his family and the terror begins. I went along for the ride and got more then my share of chills, terror, and thrills in a very scary way. I felt the end was only the beginning of the terror to come. Great title for such a chilling book.
