Sleep No More is that rarity, a thriller that really thrills. Iles is masterful at sustaining psychological suspense, as Waters is drawn into an affair with the woman who claims to be his lost love, again jeopardizing his life. An irresistible page-turner. Completely engagin. rresistible pass-the-popcorn fu. spirited chiller. A broody, moody writer whose books have the twitchy languidness of Tennessee Williams combined with the suspense of Alfred Hitchcoc. dazzling combination of guilt, obsession, and suspicion. Fans will certainly enjoy the way he once again brings to piquant lif. atchez and the Mississippi Delta.

You would never guess that Mr. Iles is not a native Southerner- he captures the culture so well, right down to his phrasing. This one was no disappointment. A bit more sexually graphic than some of the others, but at the root- a great suspense novel. msaucier818, April 8, 2018.

Greg Iles Sleep No More The normal man is a fiction. An independent petroleum geologist, Waters owned half of a company with more than thirty producing oil wells, but he now lived with a sword hanging over his head. CARL JUNG Cathy! Cathy! - HEATHCLIFF, Wuthering Heights Chapter 1 Eve Sumner appeared on the first day of fall. Not the official first day-there was nothing official about Eve-but the first day the air turned cool, blowing through John Waters’s shirt as though it weren’t there. Seventeen years of success had been thrown into jeopardy by a single well that might have leaked salt water into a Louisiana rice farmer’s fields.

I'm not giving up on Greg Iles, but I'll read the blurbs a little more carefully before I pick up another of his books.

"Home Run Kid Does it Again". Every time I see a book written by Greg Iles, there is no hesitation as I rush to purchase those coveted pages for my library. One is never disappointed until they have read the last word of the novel. And if your a voracious reader as I am, you know what I mean. There is nothing to dislike in any of the books that I have had the power profound pleasure in reading. Although, some of his published works bewilder the reader at the beginning, it doesn't discourage you but rather encourages you to "buckle your seatbelt" and see where he's going to take you. Anyone who enjoys an excellent mystery read that keeps you entertained for hours at a time would certainly enjoy this or any other of Mr Isles publications and should not consider thatgiving less th"Home Run Kid Does it Again". This book was nothing like his other books set in Natchez. Greg Iles is a very good author. I think that once established, authors like to stretch and write something provocative or totally different. Well, this is it. I love thrillers with twists and turns and but this felt like the story line couldn't decide where it was going: family man has an affair involving kinky sex, a solid character from another book line of Iles shows up and it appears the story will take a realistic twist, but it goes on and on with the supernatural stuff, sort of like a B move. If you haven't read any other Iles' books, try them; they are superior.

At one time this novel would have or could have been turned into a shocking blockbuster movie about the paranormal, lost love, action, tension, visceral jealousy, murder, layered who-dun-its even... there's a lot here. I don't know whether we've become so jaded as a society that twisty shocks and edgy content and graphic sexuality have just become the norm now with something mysteriously even greater needed to bring a story like this more notice and fame. It must have been fun for the author to write this story using characters that exist in the same world as popular characters he has already created. Greg Iles is a fine writer, maybe it's a little too literate for its basic horror roots. I know that I felt like I was coming to the ending and realized I was only half way through. I'm not sure who I would recommend this to. Someone open to the paranormal slipping into everyday life? Just like in the story itself? Perhaps if you're that person...

I'm a huge fan of Greg Iles, but this book was just to bizarre. Don't get me wrong, I love supernatural and odd stories, but the cheesy sex scenes and sex undertones kind of ruined it for me.
I was hoping the ending would reveal a sinister plot rather than the supernatural, and I thought the ending was pretty weak.
Sorry Greg, not your best.

Greg Iles, know for fast paced legal thrillers, bring his talent to a tales of intertwined science fiction and legal suspense. For those sci-fiction fans, this will be a good read. Fast paced with good character development provides a solid foundation for an average read for legal thriller lovers.

Oh my gosh! The incredibly talented Mr. Iles has us believing the unbelievable. I can see why author Stephen King praised this book, although it is not written in the King style. It is a supernatural thriller, unlike anything I have ever read, but this exceptional storyteller has us believing that it could happen, and makes the incredible seem logical.
Iles takes us back once again to wonderful Natchez, Mississippi, (his actual home town) for the locale of this novel. The main character is John Waters, a likeable, decent man, 41 years old with a young daughter and a wife who loves him, but is unable to make love with him after 2 traumatic miscarriages. Along comes Eve Sumner, lady realtor, to tempt him - in the process of luring him in she shocks him by telling him things only a former lover would know - Mallory Candler, with whom he had an obsessive love affair, culminating in her trying to kill him, before she herself was murdered by a rapist 10 years prior. How can Eve Sumner possibly know these personal things about his relationship with Mallory of long ago? She is 10 years younger than Mallory would have been if she lived.
John spends 2 weeks out of his life seeing Eve Sumner nights as he sneaks out of his house instead of sleeping, returning before morning, then his life starts to fall apart, and he wonders if he is losing his mind, and if his past will doom his future.

The plot twists and turns of this book keep shocking the reader. Our sympathies go out to this likeable main character because we can't imagine how we would react in a situation such as he is in - it's just overwhelming - you root for him to fight back!
Stephen King said something on the jacket about being hooked after the 7th chapter - it keeps your interest from the beginning, but he's right, after the 7th chapter, look out, and by the 11th chapter, I recommend you not pick it up at bed-time or you will "Sleep No More."
I agree with one other reader, however, who found that it ended abruptly, and left us wondering about a couple things... but I will leave that to you to determine for yourself... Thank you, Greg for a gripping novel - can't wait to see what's next!
