Hiding in the Shadows book. It feels choppy and disjointed and it resolves just outside my comfort zone of belief and I have a pretty big confort zone.

HIDING IN THE SHADOWS is the story of a man and the two women that he ends up loving. Kay Hooper has an exceptional way of drawing you directly into the action within the first few pages of any of the Bishop/ Special Crimes Unit Novels. but there is an eerie connection between the women. This book is a paranormal romantic suspense, but the emphasis is more on the suspense than the romance. They are definitely page turners. Once started I can't put them down.

Kane said as they left the hospital. Faith thought he kept talking, thought he was explaining something about a call he’d received about a problem on a job site, but she could no longer hear him. The. sounds of rushing water drowned out his words. She stared straight ahead through the windshield, trying not to flinch away from what she heard even though the force of it was almost overwhelming. And it wasn’t just the sound. Panic was crawling around in her head; the sense of being smothered, of not having enough room, not nearly enough room, paralyzed her.

Hiding In The Shadows was a Superb-A-Listic read! It has twists and turns, then an abrupt about face just when you think you might have the culprit plucked from the pages. I like her psychic suspense voice. Will the real Kay Hooper please stand up? I have read just about every book this woman has written-yet, her last two books are so different, they have just blown me away! Ms. Hooper has outdone herself and brought her writing to a whole new dimension that I, for one, find fascinating beyond belief.

I am at a loss for words. Hiding in the Shadows is the second book in Kay Hooper’s Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Series. From the first page, the story is action-packed at a pace that doesn’t slow until the final ten to fifteen percent. Like the first book, the key players have the gift of extrasensory perception. In this book, instead of being in the killer's mind, Faith is in the victim's head.

Dinah Leighton is an investigative reporter hot on the trail of a major scandal. Faith Parker is Dinah’s close friend and in a coma after a suspicious accident then Dinah goes missing shortly before Faith comes out of her coma. Faith has a severe case of amnesia. Faith has dreams of Dinah and Kane MacGregor but she is not sure who they are until she sees Kane on the news asking for help to find his fiancée who is missing.

Hiding in the Shadows is full of tension and anxiety. While reading, I suspected every character of being the kidnapper. Bishop, the psychic FBI agent, is a close friend of Kane and Dinah’s. His role in this book is liaison with the local police and some investigative work from Quantico. However, as in the first book, Bishop is not the central focus of the story.

So…what happened? For me, the ending took me from a believable psychic experience to an anti-climactic, unbelievable ending. A story that kept me expecting that every character could be the “bad guy”; hoping the rescuers would get to the crime scene in time to rolling my eyes until I got a headache. I can’t give too much information without revealing the final twist, but it didn’t work for me. This ending took a solid four to five-star story to nothing more than an OK read. I’m sure there are many readers of paranormal who will buy into the conclusion, but it didn't work for me at all.

I’m also disappointed that Hooper continues to dangle Bishop at the reader without giving him a decent storyline. Regardless, the story held my interest through most of the book, so I will give the next one in the series a try in the hope that we will get to know Bishop finally. If that doesn’t happen, I’m not sure I will continue with the series.

This is the third book about Bishop, and the reader following the series can now see the beginnings of a very unique FBI unit. In both Stealing Shadows and Hiding in the Shadows there is mention of something or someone that Bishop has been searching for, for a very long time. In Out of the Shadows, he finally finds her. Miranda Knight is so much more to him than the one who got away. She is the one he let down, the other half of his heart, the one he needs to make amends with, the one who can complete him. If only she would let him in.

What Bishop did to let Miranda down affected not only her, but her little sister, Bonnie. It's immediately clear that Miranda may have been willing to forgive and forget the wrongs done to her, but hurting her baby sister, putting Bonnie's life in danger was unforgivable. So she left. She ran far and fast and then put such a heavy layer of protection around herself and her sister that Bishop had virtually no chance of ever getting to her, until she let him. And it takes a vicious serial killer for her to be willing to let him find her.

The terror stalking her town is like nothing she has ever seen. A monster snatching people and cruelly torturing them, then leaving them on horrific display for all to see. Miranda hasn't been able to find and stop this killer on her own, and knows that she will need additional help. More than that, she's a powerful psychic whose abilities have told her, in no uncertain terms, that it must be Bishop who aids her. Those abilities also tell her, in equally certain terms, that someone will die when he does.

This is a truly masterful tale. The characters are so amazingly real and recognizable. The science behind each person's actions, abilities, attitudes is so honest and real, the story jumps off the page. And just when you think the story has concluded, there's yet more twists to make you hover on the edge of your seat.

Such a fantastic read. Best of all, for me, was the way the story ended, in such a way that creates excitement and anticipation for the next book in the series without doing so with a cliffhanger. I'll say it plainly, I absolutely detest cliffhangers, but Kay Hooper has yet to leave me hanging. :)

From our earliest memories, so many of us believe in love, in soulmates. We spend immense proportions of our lives searching for our life partner, the love of our lives, in a shining example of how strongly we believe that special someone is really out there for us. It's just a matter of finding them and recognizing them. But then sometimes we get so focused on the idea of a love match that we ignore that sometimes our soulmates never fall into that category.

That is the case for Faith and Dinah, I think. When they meet, they feel immediately that something has clicked into place, and they are deeply bonded from that moment forward. So much so that Faith wakes up from a weeks-long coma, and almost immediately joins the search for Dinah who has gone missing. Faith is incredibly in tune with Dinah, wearing her nail polish, subconsciously using her mannerisms - but most shockingly having stark visions of what Dinah seems to be experiencing at the hands of the vicious tormentor who has taken her.

Faith teams up with Kane, Dinah's boyfriend, in a frantic search to find Dinah and bring her home safely. The visions frighten her, naturally, but she feels strongly that they're her best chance to get to Dinah.

A gripping, fast-paced crime thriller with a touch of paranormal and an incredible ending that left me reeling for days. Such a fantastic read!!
