We used the Karen Brown guides to pick hotels in France, Switzerland, and Italy in 2008. The hotels we selected from the guides in Lausanne (Hotel du Port) and Zermatt (Hotel Daniela) were outstanding. We had the best meal of our European trip at the Hotel du Port in Lausanne. The hotel we selected from the guide in Blois (Loire Valley) was in a great location, though it was really a B&B, so is difficult to compare to the Swiss hotels. In Bellagio (Lake Como) the Hotel Florence was perhaps not as nice as Hotel du Port, but the location was unbeatable. The one hotel (in Paris) which we did not select from the guide was the only somewhat disappointing hotel of our trip, not because it was a bad hotel, but because the decor was ultra modern (mostly black), and their was a dance club in the hotel which made things a bit noisy. But those kind of details are exactly the kinds of things we could have learned if I had used the Karen Brown guide instead of relying on my own ingenuity...;-)

My sons and I are going back to France this summer, and I will rely on the Karen Brown guide for all hotel selections.

Karen Brown's travel books were the best. I only stayed in places she recommended. How sad that she has stopped writing travel books.

Great book and we used the hotel recs in two of the three cities we are staying in.

This book is a waste of money. A lot of fluff and no helpful information.
When one is trying to pick a place to stay in France, you need to understand many things about the inn/hotel.
For instance: surrounding areas; restaurants; where to get a cup of coffee; how to get there; who stays there; what are the accommodations really like; website info and more.

None of this information is in this book.

I want to return it!
