Murray Joseph Schisgal, American Playwright. Recipient Vernon Rice award otustanding achievement off-Broadway Theatre, 1963; Outer Circle award Outstanding Theatre, 1963; named Outstanding Playwright, 1963.

Murray Schisgal (born November 25, 1926) is an American playwright and screenwriter. Schisgal was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He is the son of Jewish immigrants, Irene (Sperling) and Abraham Schisgal, a tailor. Schisgal won his first recognition for the 1963 off-Broadway double-bill The Typists and The Tiger, which received the Drama Desk Award. His 1965 Broadway debut, Luv, was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play and for Best Author of a Play.

But this Thursday, ''Road Show,'' Mr. Schisgal's newest play, opens at the Circle Repertory Company, and this fall more of his work will be seen in New York when his three new one-act plays premiere. 'Luv,'' which opened in 1964, was Mr. Schisgal's only major hit on Broadway. 'Road Show'' is his first new full-length play to open in New York in more than 10 years.
