Book is falling apart after 3 labs because the binding is so poor. The labs require much extrapolation, because the concepts that are asked on the preliminary questions are not covered thoroughly.

Ships from and sold by Blackwell's . Tracked Service to the USA. Book is falling apart after 3 labs because the binding is so poor. This lab manual doesn't go along with my physics class book at all which makes it difficult to do preliminary work. My professor is very good, so he takes the parts he wants us to use in lab and explains them in detail.

Experimental physics is the category of disciplines and sub-disciplines in the field of physics that are concerned with the observation of physical phenomena and experiments. Methods vary from discipline to discipline, from simple experiments and observations, such as the Cavendish experiment, to more complicated ones, such as the Large Hadron Collider.

very good thank you

very good condition

This was my main physics textbook in High School. I admit I'm a total physics crackhead; can never get enough :) I wanted this on my shelf for old memories, but the material still stands tall today.

This book has been around since I was in high school. Too bad they don't upgrade it a little. Nice problems, a little heavy on derivation but all in all a good book for algebra based Physics

this is a regular physics I and II text book. it doesn't cover modern physics. It doesn't have very many examples, it has a lot of annoying "exercises" like - "can you list 5 characteristics to describe some of your fellow classmates?" It doesn't even list answers in the back of the book for any homework questions. This book is useless.

Book looks great, but did not help my physics grade.

I used this book years ago, but still find it the best. It has good diagrams, problems and covers the necessary topics..

I used this 1964 book by Dull/Metcalfe/Williams for reference during my high school days.

Looking it again after many years I'm amazed at how good it is at conveying the essentials of physics for a high school audience. I'm also surprised at how little has changed when it comes to teaching physics.

In 728 pages it covers so much - mechanics, heat, wave motion including sound, light and optics, electricity and magnetism, nuclear physics and electronics. One nice thing in the mechanics section is that dynamics (the causes of motion) comes before kinematics (the description of motion). This is in contrast to more recent textbooks. I think it makes more sense this way, actually. In parallel with coverage of linear motion we get rotary motion including moment of inertia. Usually modern books leave out this important material and just cover linear motion.

If there's anything negative about it, it's this - the number of pages devoted to some subjects is minimal, momentum for one and conservation of mechanical energy (KE<->PE) for another. More recent books typically have more pages and sample problems devoted to these topics. For example, the 1990 version of this same book does a better job with these areas and also has a better topic sequence overall.

Another thing that's dated is the extensive section on electronics which spans about 70 pages. This would be considered college/university level material these days and would be transistor-based instead of vacuum tube-based.

There are no solutions or answers to any of the problems at the back of the book.

The last edition of this book - same title but with Trinklein as the sole author (ISBN 0030743176) - came out in the early 1990's. This marks the end of a great run for this work. It was first published as "Essentials of Modern Physics" by Charles Dull in 1922.
