Nice story long on interesting antics, but short on details, Wisbeski mentions litter training, but doesn't go into details, though I assume she was successful. Still, a helpful read. It was the same otter, Okefenokee, and the same writer, Dorothy Wisbeski. The story gives a rollicking look at a very active and intelligent pet who takes over the house from the minute he gets there, especially the bathroom where the water is. I won't go through the book but the Wisbeskis were very fortunate their pet lived as most baby otters die as infants. Because Okee lived well past that stage it gave zookeepers an insight on how to raise and take care of otters.

At first the Wisbeskis fear for Okee's (for Okefenokee) loss of freedom, but the Columbian otter proves he can improvise in suburban New Jersey, sometimes to the couple's chagrin.

I know a breeder of otter kits, and he's not too far from my QTH. I've been thinking about this, and have been looking for just this sort of material. Okee's behavior ran true to form, and was just about what I figured. Nice story long on interesting antics, but short on details, Wisbeski mentions litter training, but doesn't go into details, though I assume she was successful. Still, a helpful read.

I read this book as a child, and not only did I reread it numerous times, but I even went around the neighborhood trying to read it to other kids! As an adult now I can say that this book speaks from the heart. It is written in an uncomplicated style, but the content is no less charming and warm 20 years later than it was the first time I picked it up. As a youngster I identified with Okee and Trouper (the dog), and all the mischief they created. As an adult I identified with Dorthy and Luke, and the sacrifices they made for an animal who brought them so much happiness. For this reason it could be recommended to children and adults alike. This book is a wonderful part of my childhood now, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves animals.

Looked for years for a copy of this book. It's out of print. I read it with my own children and we laughed and laughed at the antics of Okee.
I wanted a copy to share with students at school.

I read this book over a several-day period and I am not sure it was the same book I read as a child that I remember titled An Otter in the House. You find out very quickly that dealing with a growing otter is a very energetic occupation and keeps you active day and night. Despite all the problems and expenses, and a few scares, Okee was a real joy to own and love. I could not help comparing it to another famous otter book and movie, Ring of Bright Water. It takes a certain kind of person to deal with the trials and tribulations of owning such a challenging pet, and how wonderful to read about it such a delightful book as Okee the Otter.

Had this when I was young, loved finding a copy. I must have read this book 20 times!

This was a gift, but the recipient got the book quickly and was very happy with it. Thank you!

A wonderful book! I read it to my 11 yr old son...he loved it. Great bonding time.

I read this as a child, and wanted to share it with my children. It's an endearing story of the antics of a lively, mischievous otter.

This book appears to be out of print, so you have to find it on the used market.

There are two versions of this book that are titled similarly, one is directed more toward adults, this one is aimed more at children.
