He sheds light both on the presuppositions and aims of the Decree, hidden beneath its adeptly crafted façade, and on their relation to the actual objectives of the dialogue itself. He rightly poses the question as to the path of Roman Catholic theology – Ressourcement (return to the sources) or renovation? – a question that arises from the continual Roman Catholic theological and dogmatic reassessments with respect to baptism.

This book tells the story of the growth of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion. This Communion of Communities is blooming across the United States as people of various denominations, mostly Roman Catholic, have a need to find a spiritual home that is fully Catholic, but also has an open table, and welcomes people who are on many paths. This is the well-told story of the journey of inclusion, where all are indeed welcome in the pews and at the table. Women are ordained in this communion, and marriage issues are no bar to being welcome. This is a joyful story of the work of many to make a home where everyone can feel at home.

It's no secret that there are many disgruntled Catholics in the world. Disgusted with their top leadership, yet they love their Catholic traditions and cannot give them up. Becoming Protestants is too big a jump. Well, there is an alternative, and it is in this book. Dean C. Jones, who has been a minister, a university professor and director of night ministry programs that worked in city ghettos with alcoholics and drug addicts, has written a fine, comprehensive book on the Ecumenical Catholic Communion. This group of churches says it is just as Catholic and legitimate as Vatican Catholicism but with major differences: 1) In its congregations women may be ordained and clergy can be married. 2) Persons of all sexual orientations are welcome. 3) Contraception is the private decision of married couples. 4) Annulments are not required; divorced persons are welcome. 5) Power is centered in lay and clergy collaboration. It is not just from the top down. Wow! Welcome to the 21st century. This may be the future of the Catholic Church which has suffered a slow but steady erosion for a 100 years. Just look at what has been happening in Ireland or Brazil. So if you'd like to see how some Catholics have taken back their church from the old boys' network, this is the book. Amazon says it is currently unavailable but you can try the publisher at Woven Word Press in Boulder, CO

Many Catholics are disgusted with the moral turpitude of their hierarchy but love their Catholicism and will not move to the Protestants. Well, here is another way. You can remain a Catholic but give up on the hierarchy, which has lost so much of its spiritual authority. Dean Jones shows how hundreds of Catholics have created new parishes, now in several states, which welcome married priests, ordain women to the priesthood, leave birth control to the conscience of individual couples, and do not reject homosexuals. Here are stories of individuals and clergy and the path they travelled. Who knows, in a century or so this may be the standard Catholicism.
