Even though I had to send to the UK for it, I was glad to find a copy that wouldn't break my bank account. It was extremely well written by someone who seemed to be sitting in a comfortable armchair, telling me his story instead of me just reading a book (wish he had made and audio book of it). Now not being a citizen of the UK and having only a limited exposure to the author's career, I did have a little trouble with places and most names....and am VERY sorry that I was not fortunate enough to have been able to see him perform on the stage. Not being at all interested in cricket (baseball is MY game), I kinda skimmed over those passages.....cricket, like baseball, is something you have to acquire a taste for. But I had a terrible crush on this man when I first watched the LPW mysteries on PBS many years ago as a teen....so much so now that I am in my 60's, I wanted to learn a lot more about him ( I am sorry that he found the US not quite to his liking).

This book leaves little out. I compare it to David Niven's autobiography, "The Moon is a Balloon" which I read when it first was published....humorous, interesting and worthwhile.

I have always been a devoted fan of the brilliant (and under-rated) comic actor Ian Carmichael. His memoir is funny and insightful. I wish Carmichael had spent more time discussing the art of creating his comic roles, and gossiping about other actors, but it is a delightful autobiography. He is quite candid about how precarious and exhilarating an actor's life can be. Carmichael is quite forthright about the comic moments in his life when he acted like a fool, and his faith in the stars above to guide and provide him with luck. He died in 2010, but you can see his best movies forever.
