Tarzan the Untamed is a book by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the seventh in his series of books about the title character Tarzan.

Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) was an American fiction writer best known for his celebrated and prolific output in the adventure and science-fiction genres. Among the most notable of his creations are the jungle hero Tarzan, the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, and the fictional landmass within Earth known as Pellucidar. Burroughs' California ranch is now the center of the Tarzana neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 - 1950) was an American writer best known for his creations of the jungle hero Tarzan and the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, although he produced works in many genres. Burroughs was in his late 60s and was in Honolulu at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Events happen that leave the survivors and the Germans fighting for control of the U-Boat. About half the book is devoted to the struggle of each group trying to maintain control of the U-Boat. This back and forth power struggle leaves the U-boat open to sabotage and the group ends up in the south Pacific. It is here that the adventure truly begins.

In the 1980s Castle Books put together a simple anthology of Edgar Rice Burroughs tales that are set from the deepest core of Earth to the plains and deserts of Mars. I think the purpose of the book is to give an overview of the breadth of Burroughs because these are certainly not his best tales. Rather than A Princess of Mars which I think is his best work in the Mars series, we are shown Thuvia, Maid of Mars and The Chessmen of Mars.
