Schillebeeckx writes of matters of great theological importance but in such a way that it is difficult to put the book down once you begin. I realise it is a study text but gripped me like a novel. Another one to always have handy.

Edward Cornelis Florentius Alfonsus Schillebeeckx was a Belgian Roman Catholic theologian born in Antwerp. He taught at the Catholic University in Nijmegen. He then continued writing. In his nineties, he still wanted to finish a major book about the Sacraments.

The Reverend Father Schillebeeckx here attempts to gather into one cohesive whole a variety of writings and speeches .

The Reverend Father Schillebeeckx here attempts to gather into one cohesive whole a variety of writings and speeches from a variety of venues, much as the Reverend Father Leonardo Boff did with Church, Charism and Power: Liberation Theology and the Institutional Church. He begins his exploration of the charism of ministry in the Church with an introduction to chruch leadership, then follows with an historical examination of the New Testament communities, developing the theme of apostolicity. The second section considers the First and Seocnd Christian Millenia, including the development of our liturgy and the Council of Chalcedon.

Edward Cornelis Florentius Alfonsus Schillebeeckx (English: /ˈskɪləbeɪks/ SKIL-ə-bayks, Dutch: ; 12 November 1914 – 23 December 2009) was a Belgian Roman Catholic theologian born in Antwerp.

Ministry: Leadership In the Community of Jesus Christ. Any new book by Professor Schillebeeckx is an event, and Ministry is no exception. It seems to be the kind of book the Catholic hierarchy had in mind when it warned theologians not to expose people to the results of speculative and historical studies. Here again, indeed, the distinguished Dutch scholar is questioning traditional Vatican views.

Books, images, historic newspapers, maps, archives and more. The story of New Testament communities. Ministry in the first and second Christian millennia. Continuity and divergence between the first and second Christian millennia. A brief hermeneutical intermezzo. Some perspectives on the future : contextual experience of ministry within a living community.

This book, therefore, is about presuppositions and methods of interpretation. Schillebeeckx begins by looking once again at the nature of revelation, at the ways in which religious faith is experienced and expressed in the modern world, and at sources of authority. He then discusses specific criticisms. Can he be called a neo-liberal?

Which theological traditions and theories can offer substantial contributions to current political challenges? Themes and questions borrowed from the theology of Edward Schillebeeckx will serve as a starting point for reflecting on new questions in public and political theology. What is the political significance of Jesus Christ? Which views on grace, theocracy, the Kingdom of God or the apocalypse could be brought into conversation with political visions of the future?
