I own 4 books of him:chinese chess 1, syllabus on cannon, syllabus on elephant and syllabus on pawn. The chinese chess 1 probably is the thinnest that covers the basic playing pieces for the beginner, from chapter 1-6. After that, from chapter 7-12, novice as well as advance will benefit from it. Very practical, very real, very down to earth. What I like the most is Dr. Li gives examples to clarify his points, so it's not an abstract or just theory. You have to read to appreciate his works.

Xiangqi (Chinese: 象棋; pinyin: xiàngqí; English: /ˈʃɑːŋtʃi/), also called Chinese chess, is a strategy board game for two players. It is one of the most popular board games in China, and is in the same family as Western (or international) chess, chaturanga, shogi, Indian chess and janggi. Besides China and areas with significant ethnic Chinese communities, xiangqi is also a popular pastime in Vietnam, where it is known as cờ tướng.

Lau, 1985 First Syllabus on Xiangqi: Chinese Chess 1 by David Li. I found First Syllabus just by accident in a used-book store a few weeks ago and bought it, and it looked like it might be the best of the lot, but now I can't find it at home. It's just misplaced, not lost Xiangqi Syllabus On Elephant - Chinese Chess 3 - David H. Xiangqi - Grandmaster Hu RongJua and his Elephant Openings - Wong Ping Loong - 2017. David H. Li it is entirely due to the fact that they are all weaned on XiangQi, the fast and combative . Dr. R. Gralla: Professor Li, in your introductory book on XiangQi, "First Syllabus on XiangQi", you tell us that "playing XiangQi makes you. a stronger player of Western Chess". Li it is entirely due to the fact that they are all weaned on XiangQi, the fast and combative Chinese version of the game. The outspoken academic elucidates in part two of his interview with René Gralla. How would that work out in practical play? XiangQi pieces move in a different way, the rules on the board are different.

The book The Chess of China describes a move notation method in which the ranks of the board are numbered 1 to 10. .Li, David H. Xiangqi Syllabus on Pawn: Chinese Chess 4. Premier Publishing, Bethesda, Maryland, 2002.

First Syllabus on Xiangqi book. The book presents a concise overview of the Chinese chess game Xianqi and covers all of the essential material to get a beginner up and playing. Of special note is the inclusion of two annotated games. Even though I was a complete beginner, after reading this book I was able to play and win several games of Xiangqi online against other players.

Xiangqi, known in the west as Chinese Chess, is an extremely popular game in the Eastern Hemisphere. Xiangqi has remained in its present form for centuries. It is currently played by millions (or tens of millions) in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and other Asian countries. It is commonly believed that both Xiangqi and Orthodox Chess derive from the original Indian game of Chanturanga, but some, such as Sam Sloan and David Li, maintain that Chess is actually Chinese in origin
