I can't remember too much about this book, but I think it was part of a series. Needed to understand the characters.

Stand alone read. 1st in the Night Guardians series

EASY READ. Appealing storyline, likable characters, intriguing mystical theme, good cultural blend, and a great supporting cast. HOWEVER, the writing is fragmented, the phrasing stiff and overly dramatic, the hero & heroine are mismatched, the romance is weak and lacks chemistry, the ending is rushed and doesn't make sense, and the story drags in places.

THE STORY follows nerdy mathematician, Reagan Wilson, traveling through Navajoland searching for her missing father. Her first night, she is attacked by killer bees and saved by FBI Agent Kody Long, a member of The Brotherhood, a secret society working to restore balance and protect the Navajo people from evil beings called the Skinwalkers. Kody is called upon to protect Reagan from attacks both physical and mystical, as the Skinwalkers use mind control to keep Kody and The Brotherhood off balance while they complete their plans to gain great wealth and power.

OVERALL, appealing cross-cultural theme, but the romance is shallow and the writing is wordy and uninspired. There are better books out there (cvpl).

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, and E. Palfrey. For good mystery/ detective writers you might try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, M. Ferris, S. Grafton, S. W. Albert, Gayle Wilson, Julie Miller, or B.J Daniels.

I have reviewed this Author Linda Conrad and I use the word Author loosely. I find her writing disjointed, haphazard and lacking flow. While you may become invested in her characters you will have little idea of what is actually happening to them. This is because the writing style is like a 3rd graders collage, lacking adherence to a theme. Her choppy use of grammar creates an irritant similar to walking with a stone in ones shoe. Save yourself the time and trouble. Paint by number romance mysteries have their place and can be entertaining. This author did not get the paint by number guide. When the geeky bilagaana woman Reagan Wilson winds up on a Navajo Reservation in search of her father who has mysteriously disappeared, she has no idea what awaits her. A sudden attack of killer bees leads to her rescue by FBI Agent Kody Long a member of the brotherhood. Kody knows the attack was personal and caused by the evil doers but he senses this woman is holding back information and her presence could bring trouble to the dine. Something about her father's disappearance just doesn't add up. Is it possible he has sold out his country? As Kody helps this damsel in distress search for the missing commander they are forced to face many threatening challenges by ever changing evil presences that seek to take control over the reservation. Pain and death are inflicted upon The People and it is the brotherhoods duty to protect their clan. But the evil ones need the woman genius and when they use their mind control techniques to secretly turn the heat up between Kody and Reagan will they be strong enough to beat the heat and resist the passion? Or does Kody give in to his inexplicable lust and desire, jeopardizing his promise to his navajo brothers putting all in further danger? Can Kody find the inner strength needed to overcome his past before losing Reagan? Or will his bad actions once again lead to devastating consequences?And even if he does somehow manage to pull through he couldn't expect Reagan to put her life aside to take up residence with him on the reservation. Find out if this misfit but well paired duo survive the many faces of evil or if the wolf and snake target their weaknesses till death do they part. The wise knowledge and lifetime principles of the Navajo as well as their ancient traditions and religiousness create a well rounded balance of emotions that add the perfect touch to this riveting story!
