Life in the Undergrowth is a BBC nature documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, first transmitted in the UK from 23 November 2005. A study of the evolution and habits of invertebrates, it was the fifth of Attenborough's specialised surveys following his major trilogy that began with Life on Earth. Each of the five 50-minute episodes looks at a group (or aspect) of the creatures using innovative photographic techniques.

Very nice book it you like learning about insects. Photos are great and David Attenborough is the best. Came in very good condition as advertised.

Life in the Undergrowth continues David Attenborough's remarkable "life of" series. And with every one of his documentaries, I learn about some new animals, or behavior that I'd never heard of before. In that regard, "Life in the Undergrowth" takes the cake. The reason for that is that there are virtually no in-depth, comprehensive, large documentaries focused primarily on invertebrates.

Life in the Undergrowth book. In Life in the Undergrowth, Sir David Attenborough again makes the difficult seem effortless-he delivers with characteristic grace and informality intimate details of the lives of creatures that often pass without notice, and yet on whom the functioning of this biological planet rests.

In Life in the Undergrowth, Sir David Attenborough again makes the difficult seem effortless-he delivers with characteristic grace and informality intimate details of the lives of creatures that often pass without notice, and yet on whom the functioning of this biological planet rests. I believe this to be the very best in his series-the sense of breathless wonder in his subject is palpable-and it joins the classic collections of nature essays by E. O. Wilson, Thomas Eisner, and Rachel Carson.

If this were a book on recently discovered extra-terrestrial lifeforms, it could not be more alien to the large scale animal and plant life we commonly encounter. There is a section on a unique spider who makes its "nest" in air bubbles it carries underwater for that purpose, which is totally unadapted to that behavior (it looks like every other spider) that raises the totally mind blowing question of whether a mutation in behavior can (and perhaps often does) drive the evolution of physical form, as well as the reverse.

And that's just one small example. This is a book that quite simply will have you shaking your head in amazement page after page ... the best thing Attenborough ever did, and readers familiar with his work will realize what a high compliment that is.

What a wonderful book. My 8 year old is loving writing paragraphs and drawing in his own journal from this book. David Attenborough is really the greatest of Britons!

Of all the documentaries made by Sir Attenbourough, it deserves for its delicacy, depth and beauty. In today's world, where TV invades our homes every day with horrific scenes of death and misfortune, this DVD is an island of calm ..... a nice balm that soothes the stresses of daily "modern life".

I love this book! The text is easy to read--great for kids--and the photos are extraordinary. I only wish there were more photos. Attenborough did a superb job introducing us into the fantastic world of insects. Bravo!
