If this is your first exploration of Thinking and Destiny, you may want to start with the Author’s Foreword and Introduction. Although history has shown us that human beings are often inclined to venerate and glorify a person of H. W. Percival’s stature, he himself was adamant that he did not want to be regarded as a teacher. He asks that the statements in Thinking and Destiny be judged by the truth that is in each person; thus, he turns the reader back to him or herself: I do not presume to preach to anyone; I do not consider myself a preacher or a teacher.

Shridath RAMPHAL, Guyanese barrister, politician and international official.

A monograph is a specialist work of writing (in contrast to reference works) or exhibition on a single subject or an aspect of a subject, often by a single author or artist, and usually on a scholarly subject. Thus it differs from a serial publication such as a magazine, journal, or newspaper. In this context only, books such as novels are monographs.

Kwame Nkrumah (September 21, 1909 - April 27, 1972) was an influential twentieth century advocate of Pan-Africanism, and the leader of Ghana and its predecessor state, the Gold Coast, from 1952 to 1966. He became Prime Minister in 1952 and President when Ghana adopted a republican constitution in 1960. He was deposed in 1966 while overseas and ended his life in exile in Guinea, which made him an honorary co-president. His rule had become increasingly authoritarian while Ghana's economy had slipped from one of the strongest to one of the weakest in Africa.

Post-independence governments in Africa, such as the administration of Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana, promoted dams as a centrepiece of national economic strategy

Post-independence governments in Africa, such as the administration of Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana, promoted dams as a centrepiece of national economic strategy. In Ethiopia after the restitution of Haile Selassie by British forces, the government promoted a similar model, with the first river basin engineering scheme launched in the Awash Valley in the 1960s Plantation Development in the Turkana Basin: The Making of a New Desert? Article. The costs have often been externalized, with increased environmental productivity in the new croplands counterbalanced by increased aridity elsewhere.

For these reasons, publication of a monograph is commonly regarded as vital for career progression in many academic disciplines. In librarianship, the word monograph has a broader meaning, that of a nonserial publication complete in one volume (book) or a finite number of volumes.
