Homo Faber Analysis – Introduction. Indeed, literary works have been widely used by their composers to outline the ills that plague the societies within which they live, as well as plant the seeds or ideas of ideal societies that can be created through making some changes in the ways of living. It goes without saying that different artists, poets, playwrights and even writers have varying degrees of success and popularity depending on the extent to which individuals can identify with the works.

Faber and the young woman: the best-selling book by Max Frisch tells a disturbing tale of love and tragedy against the backdrop of the modern age and its technological advances. While waiting to be rescued from the crash landing, Walter met one of his fellow passengers on board the plane, who turned out to be the brother of an old friend named Joachim Hencke. When Faber learns that Joachim was living in nearby Guatemala, running a tobacco plantation in the middle of nowhere, he decides to take the time to pay him a visit - only to encounter his lifeless body upon arrival; Joachim had apparently hung himself.

Homo Faber was chosen as a study text for the schools and became the most read of Frisch's books. The following year Frisch visited Greece which is where the latter part of Homo Faber unfolds. The book involves a journey which mirrors a trip that Frisch himself undertook to Italy in 1956, and subsequently to America (his second visit, this time also taking in Mexico and Cuba).

Homo Faber (German: Homo faber. Ein Bericht) is a novel by Max Frisch, first published in Germany in 1957. The novel is written as a first-person narrative. The protagonist, Walter Faber, is a successful engineer traveling throughout Europe and the Americas on behalf of UNESCO.
