This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the original. Due to its age, it may contain imperfections such as marks. First was Keynes' demolition of "classical" economic theory on the means of increasing employment, political economy, and the relationship of supply to demand. Think Say, Malthus, and especially Ricardo and Pigou. This was totally unexpected, but given the revolutionary nature of his argument, entirely understandable. WIth patience, plenty of revisiting the definitions of economic terms and careful deliberate thought, I was able to follow the gist of Keynes' General Theory. It made for slow going.

The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money of 1936 is the last and most important book by the English economist John Maynard Keynes. It created a profound shift in economic thought, giving macroeconomics a central place in economic theory and contributing much of its terminology – the "Keynesian Revolution".

In his Some Considerations on the Consequences of the Lowering of Interest (1691) and Further Considerations (1695) Locke developed the applications of the quantity theory of money as a special case of the demand-and-supply theory of price determination and presented a sophisticated defense of mercantilism. His price theory which accurately predicted the correct direction of change in price (especially the interest rate) in response to changes in underlying variables led to his development of a very advanced monetary theory, "probably his most important contribution to ... economic thought" (The New Palgrave).
