Penny Sansevieri, creator of the Virtual Book Tour, has done a masterful job at making a bridge for "new to marketing" authors and publishers to understand and use the Internet to promote their books. Her emphasis is to explain a few of the facts and key strategies. She then gives all kinds of practical ways to implement these strategies to deliver increased and continuing book sales. She explains how the web is a new and different channel, and how it has impacted all the other marketing channels for getting the word out about your book. Her focus is not just to get your name out there, but how to convert that to tangible dollars and cents in increased book sales.

Ms. Sansevieri's focus in this book is almost exclusively the Internet. This is a great aid to the more "recluse" author, who is not so interested in lots of people contact in the traditional book marketing and promotion programs. As a result, she talks in easy to understand detail about web sites, blogs, social media, Virtual Book Tours, podcasts, eBooks and other promotion methods that do not require face-to-face interviews and "meet and greets." By following her book you can launch an entire book promotion program from the comfort of your own home with a standard computer. If your current computer navigates the web adequately now, then you are probably ready to follow her advice.

What I love about her style is that she does not assume you know too much in advance. She explains the basics and shows you what techniques or tools are available for Internet promotion, and then in a step-by-step manner, shows you how to do it. And if you have any difficulties, she shows smaller steps you can take, and experts you can work with.

For the beginning author, no matter what size your budget, once you see what is possible, and how cheaply it can be done, you will find ways to implement something from this book. If you are looking to hire a marketing company (and Ms. Sansevieri has the credentials in her own company) then with Red Hot Internet Publicity as a foundation, you will be able to move much faster and enjoy the ride better.
The big message I got is that the Internet has changed the way authors interact with the media and at the same time provides a vehicle so you can interact directly with your potential and current book readers in a fun and profitable way. I highly recommend this book to any beginning author, and I'll bet there are plenty of tips and ideas for seasoned pros.

What is exciting to me is that many of the concepts were not new to me, but she explained them so I could understand how to use them on the Internet, and even motivated me to go and do some of the strategies and tactics she recommends. The first thing I did was to revamp my web site and change the focus from lofty expert to "I am looking for ways to help you." Along with this information came a new attitude that, "Yes, by God, I can do this, and here is my map." So as either an Internet only promotion program, or in combination with other strategies, this book lights my path and gets me going.

A number of helpful resources are listed, including book blogs, tools for search engine optimization and keyword research, and more.

This book is so full of information of which I had no idea that I flagged almost every page. The only problem with the book is that I now have to follow up on all the wonderful ideas and recommendations.

Penny Sansevieri does a very good job of making the information understandable to people who are not nearly as internet savvy as she. She also provides lists of sites in various categories as well as very specific instructions on how to maximize her recommendations.

After reading this book I immediately offered to buy another copy for my older daughter to help with her web businesses. I can't loan my copy because I'm using it to go page by page to market my novel MRS. LIEUTENANT on the internet.

For any techno-reluctant authors, Penny's book will demystify the online book promotion techniques that are such a fundamental part of selling books these days. I particularly liked Penny's information about blogging and the "Secrets of Striking Media Gold With Blogs." Penny couldn't have said it better. Take her advice -- particularly, if you're new to online marketing and have been reluctant to get started. This book is a very basic guide filled with simple, no-sweat advice and "first steps" for novices.

My first reaction to Penny Sansevieri's Red Hot Internet Publicity was that it might have a lot of fluff. That mistake was probably due to her warm and friendly style--in the Introduction, she just seemed to want the reader to feel good.

However, Chapter 1 gets down to business, and within minutes I was rummaging through my desk for a highlighter. It turns out that there are tons of valuable tips and URLs--on podcasting, blogs, virtual tours, and much more--that will keep the ambitious self-publicist busy for many hours. I don't usually like to mark up my books, but much of Red Hot Internet Publicity cries out for highlighting.

Penny C. Sansevieri's Red Hot Internet Publicity has lit my fire! It's a 2009 edition that takes Internet publicity almost up to the minute. Topics that I read with vigor include getting higher ranking on Google, setting up a web page with a "power corner", font size, blogging tips, the importance of tags and keywords, how to set up a virtual blog tour, and so much more. Sansevieri lists a multitude of sites that I should be on to promote my books. She gives page after page of resources and communities with enough information to help me decide on the ones that are just right for me. Highly recommended for all writers who want a Web presence!
