Former Contributor CMO Network - OLD. ABOUT. I’m a former journalist with bylines in numerous major media, author of seven business-related books and earned an MBA from UCLA Anderson. As a Forbes contributor, I write about the latest ideas and trends in marketing measurement, data and analytics from the brand marketer’s viewpoint.

Content marketing, digital media, social media marketing, SEM, SEO, small business, local business. Director, Content Marketing & Strategy.

The book starts slowly and it has some useless information. It basically tries to convince the reader that understanding other cultures is important. Well, if I didn't think so, I wouldn't have bought the book in the first place. Then, there is some generalities about business, wrapped up in a lot of business/MBA BS. But it gets better. Then, they lay out a method of classifying cultures with several measures that do make sense. Then, there is a quick survey of several cultures. This section is extremely useful.

Kehrer also logs against-the-odds victories achieved by Gannett's Allen H. Neuharth (with USA Today) . As a practical matter, Kehrer concludes, consistently successful entrepreneurs and managers are at least as adept at reducing as running risks. Neuharth (with USA Today), Genentech founder Robert H. Swanson, aptly named J. Fred Risk (the Forum Group CEO who built a fast-growing chain of nursing homes and retirement centers), cable TV's Kay Koplowitz, and Harry Quadracci, the hangloose head of Quad/Graphics. Covered as well in cautionary fashion are the stories of those who came to grief for reasons that range from recklessness through stand-pat policies.

Stories about the nation's largest and most successful business conglomerates and analyses of the keys to their success are combined with risk-taking principles that can be adopted by any business in order to achieve greater profitability
